1. How effective is the combination of your
main product and ancillary texts?
Irving Sewell
The topic of my documentary was on cyber bullying. The target audience for topic are
young teenagers in school/college who use social networking regularly.
The radio trailer and double page spread was used to back up the documentary. I
think the three media products do combine well together. They all show that the
target audience is teenagers and it is clear to any viewer or listener what the topic is
about.
The documentary would appeal to teenagers because cyber bullying is a serious issue,
and to watch a documentary that shows the affects of what it has on individuals will
appeal to teenagers because social networking is a daily thing for them. For those
people that use social networking sites but do not really know about cyber bullying it
is good because it will make them think about what they do when they are using these
sites
I think the radio trailer goes well with the documentary because the majority of the
radio trailer is audio clips from the documentary so there are in a way the same.
I feel that the radio trailer and the double page spread do promote the documentary
because it leaves the viewer or listener wanting more.
2. Double page Spread
The double page spread shows
an image of footage from the
documentary where a victim of
cyber bullying is being
interviewed. The ‘over the
should camera position’ is a clue
to the viewer that it maybe a
victim who does not want to
show his face.
I do also think that the double page spread was a basic layout and
structure and more could have been done to make it more appealing
and that the quality of the documentary outshines the double page
spread.
3. Double page Spread

4. What makes it appeal to our target
audience
I think the choice of radio The documentary was to be Facebook and other social
station which was BBC Radio broadcasted on BBC Three networking sites are used by
1 was a good choice and which is a popular TV the vast majority of
would appeal to our target channel for teenagers so it teenagers and because this
audience because this is would appeal to them more is where cyber bullying
listened to by many occurs the most it will
teenagers appeal to the target
audience because it is
something they will be able
to relate to.
5. They both have the same title one has phone which can be linked
young people and on the right their is a comment that would be
assumed is from a young person
I think if someone was to look at the double page spread they would not expect the
documentary to be as good as what it is because it is basic, on the other hand o think if
someone was to see the documentary first and they would expect a better double page spread.
I feel that even though there are things that could be improved the three media products do
have a brand identity because all three products go with each other. The documentary is an
enhancement of the ancillary texts which is what it is expected to be because it improves on the
double page spread and radio trailer.
As a conclusion I think the combination and ancillary texts is very good because they do not look
out of place. They all get the point across that the topic is cyber bullying (the affects, ways to
prevent and why it exists.) I think the 3 products appeal to teenagers and this is important
because they are the people that are most affected by cyber bullying.
