Choosing a horror would’ve
given me a big scope to
                                                                        work on.

I chose to do a psychological thriller instead as I felt that after thorough research I understood the
conventions of this genre more. With the knowledge gained from analysing and research, it would be
more likely that I would be successfully capable of recreating my own.
I had the idea to include several images, showing the seasonal events and progression in a childs life.
E.g. First walk, Birthdays and Christmas Day. This would help the audience to learn more about the
protagonist, Instead of doing this. I have chosen to use one picture along with sound and colour use
This is an idea that I came up with at the beginning of the process. It was to allow the
audience to view one of the actors in the background that suddenly disappears to
suggest that it was just a figment of their imagination.

This is an idea that I believe would’ve fit into my opening but with the clips I have
already edited, I feel that adding more would ruin the mood.
I automatically decided that I
wanted to do my opening based
on schizophrenia because it was
taking over the news at the time.
I found it interesting that
reporters sometimes took an
attacking approach even though
some lacked knowledge of
Schizophrenia and mental illness
in general.

By choosing this as my topic to
base my film opening around, I
wanted to widen the
understanding of Schizophrenia
so that people don’t just recall it
as the mental illness in which
people ‘hear voices’ because
there is so much more to learn
and in the same way as
theatre, I believe that when
watching something you should
be given the opportunity to widen
your knowledge which is the
main reason I added statistics.
Production company
name idea (which
changed to Vittel
Cinema) Vittel being a
place in France. (I am Couldn’t find
currently studying A- the sound of
Level French and someone turning
wanted to incorporate it off an alarm
into my work. clock. After
                             watching it over, I
I decided not to include felt that it
the television because I wouldn’t have
felt that it wouldn’t be enhanced the
visually aesthetic for the action and
viewer in comparison to therefore wasn’t
a birds eye view shot. needed.
From analysing
‘Se7en’, I noticed
the use of the
main characters
hands but the
face was never
shown. I then
thought carefully
about how I could
do the same, and
thought filming
the movement of
the actors mouth
would be an
interesting idea.

Decided to use
one image
instead (See 8
– next slide)
I felt that using one
image instead of
several would
make this section
more poignant.

This was inspired
by a French film
called ‘La Haine’ in
which they used
this technique to
allow the audience
to keep track of
what time it is.

                        No longer
                        included. The
                        piece wouldn't
                        have been so
                        effective.
Film name
ideas:
                  ‘They say when an
•Can you hear artist starts
them? drawing circles it’s
                  the first sign of
•Today's madness’ – I got
tomorrow. this text from my
                  drama
•SANE. performance
                  which is also
•Turning point. based around
                  mental illness
                  (precisely the true
                  story of Henry
                  Cockburn who has
                  schizophrenia) and
                  I thought this was
                  a nice link to
                  make.
Notes of where the
‘Text on screen’
would be put during
the editing process.
