3. NUTRITION
All living things need NUTRITION.
Nutrition provides ENERGY and NUTRIENTS
NUTRITION IN ANIMALS NUTRITION IN PLANTS
All animals eat other living things.
There are 3 types of animals:
- CARNIVORES (eat other animals)
- HERBIVORES (eat plants)
- OMNIVORES (eat other animals
and plants)
Plants produce their own food
through PHOTOSINTHESIS.
Plants need 4 things to carry out
PHOTOSINTHESIS:
- Water and mineral salts.
- Carbon dioxide.
- Energy from sunlight.
8. SENSITIVITY
SENSITIVITY is the ability to respond to changes
in the enviroment.
SENSITIVITY IN ANIMALS SENSITIVITY IN PLANTS
People and animals use
- sense organs,
- muscles,
- the nervous system.
The most important part of the
nervous system is the BRAIN.
Plants don’t have a nervous system.
Some examples of SENSITIVITY are:
- Plants grow towards light.
- Plant roots grow towards water.
- Some plants open their flowers
during the day or at night
11. REPRODUCTION
REPRODUCTION is the ability of all living things to
PRODUCE NEW living things of their own type.
REPRODUCTION IN ANIMALS REPRODUCTION IN PLANTS
- SEXUAL REPRODUCTION: In order
to reproduce MALE and FEMALE
must come together (MATING).
- ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION: male
and female do not mate.
Animals can be:
-VIVIPAROUS: The offspring grows
inside the mother’s womb.
-OVIPAROUS: The offspring grows
inside an egg laid by the mother.
- SEXUAL REPRODUCTION: Most
plants have sexual reproduction. It
takes place in the flowers.
- Flowers have a male part and a
female part.
- ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION: : Many
plants have an asexual
reproduction (by CUTTINGS).
