Capsulated (type B) – cause meningitis,
conjunctivitis, bacteriemia, pneumonia, arthritis,
endocarditis

Non capsulated – infections of respiratory tract
adults

9. Lab diagnosis
Sample – CSF
Lumbar puncture
Gram stain – gram negative cocco bacilli
Latex particle agglutination test
Culture – blood agar or chocolate agar with added
factor X and V
