2. The genre of my product is ‘music’ and has a sub
genre of ‘indie’.
When planning the production of our projects we
had to look at the conventions of the genre and the
sub-genre.
This involved the major themes running throughout
for example in indie – depression, unhappiness, or
broken hearts. I then looked at the visual aspects
of indie products like the black and white in the
music video and in the digi pack and the website. I
got this idea from looking at other album
covers, websites and music videos. The band I
looked at were the arctic monkeys.
4. The theme I chose was black and white, we
used this effect within the music video to
identify the contrast in moods that Ronnie
experienced. I decided to also use these
colours on the website and on the digi cover
in order to represent the band and to make it
obvious to the fans/customers that the digi
cover belonged to ‘Twisted Wheel’. The
website showed images of the digi cover, the
ongoing theme throughout meant it was
obvious and helped portray the narrative and
the idea that the music video/ narrative of the
song might involve dark problems.
5. On many different band album covers they
have their own twist which helps those
who are looking for the album know what
to look for. An example of this can be....
6. On all three of these Arctic monkey albums
the ‘Arctic Monkeys’ band name is in the
left top corner of the CD this has become a
noticeable thing when looking at digi
covers. Usually artists have a certain part
of their album that they keep the same
throughout. I decided to use a more
noticeable colour theme and the main
singer as an attraction to those looking for
the album in shops.
7. In a lot of indie music videos/songs the
narrative includes heart
break, depression, upset, violence. These
conventions we tried to input into the
music video if they weren’t obvious in the
song. This meant that audiences were able
to notice the genre easily and also knew
the narrative if they based the idea off the
colours.
8. Overall I feel that my ancillary products are
mostly similar in the colour themes. This
helps promotion due to being able to find
what the album looks like and certain things
to look out for. I think that these aspects also
fit in with the conventions of the genre. The
sub genre ‘Indie’ involves a lot of dark colours
and meanings which we have portrayed
thoroughly in the music video and attempted
to include these in our ancillary products.
