A.   Background

Many kind of medias and learning methods that have been implemented in order to
imrove the previous learning pattern, game learning is one of the recently developed
learning method. The essence of game that requires player to be independence and
active, consequences of risk when taking a decision, implementing the best strategy,
improve the motivasion and support the development of skills(Clark,2006).

RPG Maker, a software that it's solely purpose was to help people in creating a
game. Even for someone who doesn't know about programming language at all. The
software can be used by average people to help them creating a game that can be
used for learning media with the greatest of ease. SEAMOLEC Indonesia as a center
for Open and Distance Learning have seen its potential to integrate the games
created into the learning process in order to make the learners can enjoy the
learning process more, and at the same time make it more efficient.


B.   Objective

The objectives of the program are:
1. To improve quality of learning through game based learning;
2. To be familiar with the use of RPG Maker sofware to build a RPG game based
learning;
3. To provide pathways for teachers/lecturer to create a new media of learning that
can be enjoyable by student;
4. To build a collaboration between SEAMOLEC with the School / University. And
5. To share knowledge, culture and values.

C.   Implementation Strategy

The workshop is scheduled for 5 days, starts from 5th September 2011 until 9th
September 2011. SEAMOLEC will provide trainers to teach and assist for developing
RPG Game based learning to all participants (university/school).

Institutions are expected to be representative in developing similar programs for the
education offered to other institutions. For universities/schools, become as a local
campus, which is collaborated and managed with SEAMOLEC as partners .

Terms of participants are as follows:
    Teachers / instructors / lecturers appointed by the principals.
    IT students who can help teachers with their games
    Bring a laptop or personal computer provided with minimal memory
      specification 1GB.
    Teachers or lecturers of particular subjects from participating universities or
      schools need to bring learning materials for the specified learners.



D.   Activities

To meet the objectives above, some possible activities could be put in the action
plan:
    Collaborative learning in Game Based Learning Technology provided by
      SEAMOLEC. In this activity, teachers or lecturers of particular subjects from
      participating universities or schools need to bring learning materials for the
      specified learners. Participating students will have the same standard of
      learning and assessment.
    Joint training for teachers, school principals, and other education personnel.

E.        Program Implementation

1. Time and Venue

The training/workshop activities were conducted in five effective days on
05 – 9 September 2011 at Hatyai Technical College, Hatyai, Thailand.

2. Training Facilities:

           Meeting room/classroom
           LCD projector, laptop computers, sound system, and CD Writer;
           stationery: white board, white board marker, flip chart, A4 sized paper,
            pencil, ball pen, eraser, ruler, and bag;
           training material for participants (printed and softcopy).


3. Participants
The training was participated by 31 (thirty-one) lecturers from Hatyai Technical
College, Songkhla Vocational College, Chana Technical College, Singhanakorn
Technology and Management Foundation, Nathawee Indrustial and Community
Education College as follows:

4. Output

 After having participated in the training, there were:
  31 (thirty-one) educators (lecturers) skillful and knowledgeable in use
     developing Game Based Learning using RPG Maker software.
  15 (fifteen) scenario to be used as a guides for creating game based learning
     using RPG Maker software
  15 (fifteen) Game based learning using RPG Maker software.

7. Evaluation
SEAMOLEC conducted evaluation for overall implementation of the training at the
end of the session. The evaluation focused on the managerial issues of the training
and also substance of the training. In addition, participants were evaluated on the
results of their assignments. Results of evaluation were used for internal purposes of
SEAMOLEC as a formative evaluation to improve the future quality of training. The
complete result of the evaluation is as follows:

Success Criteria for participation
 1. 80% of attendances;
 2. participants completed the individual and group assignments;
 3. quality of the products as determined by evaluator;
 4. active participation during the training.


 Certification
 At the fifth day, participant were required to present the games they create, as well
 as the storyboard. Certificates will be given to those who have completed the game
 and also the storyboard. The certificates were signed by Head of National
 Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia and Director of SEAMEO SEAMOLEC.


8. Follow-Up Activity

 The instructor will look further into the game, and giving some comments to make
 the game better, then the participant were expected to repair the game and also
 develop another game with their students.
 Each participant was to be a resource person to disseminate their knowledge and
 skills to their colleagues in their respective institution Attachment

  • 3. TRAINING/WORKSHOP ON RPG MAKER FOR GAME BASED LEARNING TRAINING PROGRAM SEPTEMBER 5 – 9, 2011 A. Background Many kind of medias and learning methods that have been implemented in order to imrove the previous learning pattern, game learning is one of the recently developed learning method. The essence of game that requires player to be independence and active, consequences of risk when taking a decision, implementing the best strategy, improve the motivasion and support the development of skills(Clark,2006). RPG Maker, a software that it's solely purpose was to help people in creating a game. Even for someone who doesn't know about programming language at all. The software can be used by average people to help them creating a game that can be used for learning media with the greatest of ease. SEAMOLEC Indonesia as a center for Open and Distance Learning have seen its potential to integrate the games created into the learning process in order to make the learners can enjoy the learning process more, and at the same time make it more efficient. B. Objective The objectives of the program are: 1. To improve quality of learning through game based learning; 2. To be familiar with the use of RPG Maker sofware to build a RPG game based learning; 3. To provide pathways for teachers/lecturer to create a new media of learning that can be enjoyable by student; 4. To build a collaboration between SEAMOLEC with the School / University. And 5.   • 4. C. Implementation Strategy The workshop is scheduled for 5 days, starts from 5th September 2011 until 9th September 2011. SEAMOLEC will provide trainers to teach and assist for developing RPG Game based learning to all participants (university/school). Institutions are expected to be representative in developing similar programs for the education offered to other institutions. For universities/schools, become as a local campus, which is collaborated and managed with SEAMOLEC as partners . Terms of participants are as follows:  Teachers / instructors / lecturers appointed by the principals.  IT students who can help teachers with their games  Bring a laptop or personal computer provided with minimal memory specification 1GB.  Teachers or lecturers of particular subjects from participating universities or schools need to bring learning materials for the specified learners. D. Activities To meet the objectives above, some possible activities could be put in the action plan:  Collaborative learning in Game Based Learning Technology provided by SEAMOLEC. In this activity, teachers or lecturers of particular subjects from participating universities or schools need to bring learning materials for the specified learners. Participating students will have the same standard of learning and assessment.  Joint training for teachers, school principals, and other education personnel.   • 5. E. Program Implementation 1. Time and Venue The training/workshop activities were conducted in five effective days on 05 – 9 September 2011 at Hatyai Technical College, Hatyai, Thailand. 2. Training Facilities:  Meeting room/classroom  LCD projector, laptop computers, sound system, and CD Writer;  stationery: white board, white board marker, flip chart, A4 sized paper, pencil, ball pen, eraser, ruler, and bag;  training material for participants (printed and softcopy). 3.   • 9. 7. Evaluation SEAMOLEC conducted evaluation for overall implementation of the training at the end of the session. The evaluation focused on the managerial issues of the training and also substance of the training. In addition, participants were evaluated on the results of their assignments. Results of evaluation were used for internal purposes of SEAMOLEC as a formative evaluation to improve the future quality of training. Success Criteria for participation 1. 80% of attendances; 2. participants completed the individual and group assignments; 3. quality of the products as determined by evaluator; 4. active participation during the training. Certification At the fifth day, participant were required to present the games they create, as well as the storyboard. Certificates will be given to those who have completed the game and also the storyboard. The certificates were signed by Head of National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia and Director of SEAMEO SEAMOLEC. 8. Follow-Up Activity The instructor will look further into the game, and giving some comments to make the game better, then the participant were expected to repair the game and also develop another game with their students. Each participant was to be a resource person to disseminate their knowledge and skills to their colleagues in their respective institution Attachment 1.
