Strong job growth in 2014 led by the
professional & business services sector

• The Twin Cities gained slightly more than 32,000 jobs in 2014 and saw its unemployment rate decrease
100 basis points to 3.3 percent. This is the lowest unemployment rate among U.S. metro areas with at
least one million residents.
• Office-using employment increased by more than 14,000 jobs in 2014. The professional and business
services sector alone added nearly 12,000 jobs, and employment in this sector is just slightly below its
all-time high. Manufacturing job growth was also strong. The resurgence in manufacturing has lifted
employment in this sector to its highest levels since 2008.
