2. Contents Title
Subline
This briefly ‘informs’
(Katz) the reader what
each page contains, or
what the stories are
about, for example the
verbal code.
Sub Headings
This outlines what is in the magazine and is
something that I would look to replicate in my
own magazine.
Page number
This is discretely
placed in the
bottom right hand
corner which is
where I will be
placing my page
numbers.
Main Image –Star
appeal
The main image draws the
reader in as it has star appeal,
by adding an image of an artist
on the contents page it makes
the magazine appeal to a wider
market who are a fan of the
star featured.
Issue details
This verbal code
‘informs’ (Katz) the
reader when the
issue was released.
I was unable to analyze the contents page from my
chosen magazine of inspiration(CLASH Magazine) as
their contents page is too simplistic to analyze and
didn’t have many interesting features.
3. Pull quote – This is used to
entice the reader into
reading the rest of the
article by drawing out an
interesting line and making it
stand out by making it bold.
Magazine Credits – these
are displaying the
photographer and Editors
name.
Drop Capital –
By using a drop
capital on the ‘F’
at the beginning
of the main
article it draws
attention to the
article.
Main image – this in
black and white and its
simplistic which fits in
with the text boxes.
Writer of the
article's photo is
placed here
along with a
note from them
to the reader.
The text boxes have a black font on
top of a white background which
makes them stand out from the
plain black background.
4. Conclusion
Contents Page
I wish to ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale – 1980) the following features on my contents page:
1. Main Image – I wish to have a large main image at the top of my contents page as it
gives the page star appeal which will make a wider variety of people want to buy the
magazine.
2. Page Number in the bottom right hand corner – I wish to repeat this feature on my
contents page as it is discrete which will enable me to fit more text and images on the
page.
3. Subheadings – I also want to repeat this feature on my own contents page as it gives a
very brief insight in to what the reader should expect to find in my magazine.
Double Page Spread
I wish to ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale – 1980) the following features on my double page spread:
1. Drop capital – I want repeat this feature as it draws more attention to the article and
makes the pages look more professional.
2. Text boxes – I want to repeat the style of ‘CLASH’ magazines text boxes as it looks very
professional and is very unique compared to the styles of other music magazines.
3. Main image – finally I want to incorporate the style of the main image used in many of
‘CLASH’ magazines double page spreads, usually the photos are well edited and black
and white which is what I want to feature in my music magazine.
