OCR A2 Media Studies (Kaleb, Adam B, Adam P, Nick)
 Welcome to our audience feedback session!
 The main aim of this presentation is to hear
from you, our target audience, what makes
you watch a horror film.
 We hope that these ideas that we are going
to present to you today, appeal to you.
 We are going to show you two synopsis’ from
two different perspectives.
 We would like to know which perspective you
prefer, as this could form the basis for our
trailer.
 Female police detective, Detective Inspector Diana Apollo is on
the hunt for a serial killer.
 There has been mysterious disappearances over the last few
weeks, with body parts appearing at their last known location.
 As the disappearances continue, and the finger count increases,
Diana finds herself on the hunt for a psychopath serial killer.
 She tracks the serial killer down to a man called Richard Miles,
who was once a wealthy business man, who lost his job, his house,
his wife and turned to drugs, alcohol and became a psychopath.
No one has seen him for two years and do not know his location
now.
 Diana tracks Miles down to an abandoned derelict building, where
all the bodies are found, but she is still yet to find Miles and he is
somewhere in the building.
 Richard Miles has the perfect life: a perfect wife,
a perfect job; a perfect house.
 However, he gets made redundant as a result,
his entire life falls apart.
 In the heat of a moment, he kills his wife, Nina,
and goes on an insane killing spree, killing his
boss, Joe Morgan, his best friend George Lithert
and many others.
 Eventually, Detective Inspector Diana Apollo,
manages to track down to an abandoned
derelict building
 The scares will be achieved through a tense
scene in an abandoned/decrepit building trying
to track down Richard Miles.
 The scene will occur in an abandoned derelict
building, where she is trying to capture the
villain of the film.
 The scares will be created through silent music,
heavy breathing, flashes of light and fast camera
work.
 The scares can also occur through the brutal
murders of his victims, however there may be
certain constraints due to the 15 BBCFC Rating
The name for our horror character of
Richard Miles derives from the name John
Doe. John Doe is the name often used in
hospitals when talking of corpses whose
identity is unknown. John Doe vigilante
used this name for the reason of a lack of
identity.
Because of this we have chosen our
character to be called Richard Miles a
name that is also used by hospital
attendees to describe unidentifiable
bodies.
Diana: In Greek Mythology Diana was the
goddess of hunting. This is significant for
a non-nonsense police detective who
relies heavily on instinct and clues in
order to find and prosecute the offender.
Apollo: Is the God of light, truth
and healing which is significant
for our honest detective.Who
may have to discover her morals
and maintain honesty during the
strain of her situation.
Boss ‘Joe Morgan’-The boss who
triggers the scenario by firing Richard.
Wife Nina Miles – Leaves Richard
becomes first victim
Discouraging friend – George Lithet is a
close friend to Richard and discourages
him from the events he is undertaking.
He argues with Richard and ends up
being one of his victims.
 Richard Miles was at first a
businessman with a steady job.
During the opening few scenes in
the trailer he will be pictured to be
wearing smart clothing typical of
a workplace environment
 After the events which cause him
to alter the clothing style of
Richard will change, meaning his
clothes will become more basic
and perhaps rougher in terms or
appearance.
 The following pictures suggest
two possible costumes for the
Detective Inspector DianaApollo
to wear.
 One uniform is stereotypical of
the average policewomen and
could be used to suggest that
she is a more hands on officer,
possibly more involved with the
action.
 The second possible costume is
more formal perhaps best
describing a women who is the
centre of the investigation and is
in control and powerful.
 We are going to list several possible titles for our
horror film, and we would like to know, which
one would entice you to go and watch.
 DI Diana
 Richard
 Miles
 Wanted
 In the questionnaire, we are going to hand out to
you, we would like you to pick what horror film
title would make you go and watch it.
 To suit the theme/genre of the horror
trailer we intend to produce, it is
essential that we find a location which
is currently not in use in order for
filming to take place.
 We have found an example of a
typical site filming could take place at
in Nuneaton, due to the isolated,
rustic and damaged appearance of the
site it would be an ideal setting to set
the horror trailer.
 However as long as the location is
visually appealing towards the horror
genre from the exterior it will be
suited to filming as the shots will only
take place from the outside.
 TheWeddington Hotel in
Nuneaton provides an ample
setting for our horror trailer.
Due to the historical value of
the building it cannot be
demolished and has been left
abandoned surrounded by
protective fencing in plain
site.
 Both the exterior and interior
of the building is heavily
damaged in places which will
assist to provide tension
building during the trailer
especially on the cellar
staircase as shown on the left.
 Ryton House in Coventry, a
heavily damaged and
abandoned manor house
 With an ideal surrounding
area to film the horror trailer
as it may help to provide
tension builds and to set the
scene of the horror when
necessary. Providing moving
images of the setting will
always help to provide
atmosphere.
 However the interior of the
location is completely
demolished and so not of
much use in terms of filming
due to the lack of interior
scenery.
 Alternatively, if we are unable to access
these types of locations or the specific
locations stated then we can always film in
local areas accessible to the public such as
woodland, fields or areas that may provide
the type of atmosphere to suit the horror
genre. (Plus our own homes if necessary)
9bKyDB5Y
 Do you think using found footage or
hidden camera’s similar to this trailer is
effective?
 Would using the night vision effect on
our trailer make it more effective?
 Do you think this trailer reveals too
much about the film?
=YDGw1MTEe9k
 Is this trailer effective? Does it
create fear?
 Does this trailer give enough to
make the audience understand
what the film is about?
tch?v=S014oGZiSdI
 Do you think this trailer gives
too much away?
 Do you think a psychological
horror is more affective than
any other type of horror?
tch?v=NsIilFNNmkY
 Do you think film trailers
such as the Cabin InThe
Woods (which is a comedy
horror) still achieves what a
horror trailer should do?
tch?v=E1YbOMDI59k
 What do you think was
effective about this specific
trailer?
 What could this trailer do to
be better?
 Finally, we would like to present you with
three soundtracks, which we could use in our
horror film trailer.
 In the questionnaire, we are handing out to
you, we would like you to choose, which one
you think is best.
 We will be happy to answer any questions you
may have
 Questionnaire’s will now be handed out, so
we can get your opinion on what will make
our Horror Film the best it can be.
