The majority of health research networks rely on basic technologies to support their distributed collaboration. This presentation is a brief introduction to a new class of technologies, enterprise social networks (ESNs), that can better host their collaboration and increase the probability of successful outcomes.
This presentation is Part 1 in our series looking at enterprise social networks in health research. Solvable Health aims to inspire health research leaders and participants to implement new approaches & technologies to support greater collaboration.

7. “To reap the full benefit of social technologies,
organizations [networks] must transform their
structures, processes, and cultures: they will
need to become more open and non-hierarchical
and to create a culture of trust. Ultimately, the
power of social technologies hinges on the full and
enthusiastic participation of employees [members]
who are not afraid to share their thoughts and trust
that their contributions will be respected. Creating
these conditions will be far more challenging than
implementing the technologies themselves.”

10. “Knowledge translation is of critical importance to
health research, as it has become clear that the
creation of new knowledge often does not, on its
own, lead to widespread implementation or impacts
on health. From CIHR’s perspective, accountability
from the federal and provincial governments, as
well as the public, makes it increasingly important
to demonstrate the benefits of the investment
of taxpayer dollars in health research by moving
research into policy, programs and practice.”
