What's New in ZW3D2012

1. A completely new design experience

1.1 New ribbon interface

ZW3D2012 offers a greatly improved user experience. Intuitive access to common commands through the
new ribbon interface speeds up and simplifies the design process. Hovering the mouse over an icon gives
a pop up, context sensitive, help box to make operation even easier.

1.1.1 User interface customization
Users can easily customize the new ribbon interface to suit their own way of working. Skin, menu
tabs, panels and toolbars can all be changed from quick access menu commands located on the right hand
toolbar.

                                                                                                      1

1.3 Improved graphics

1.3.1 Graphics are 2-3 times faster
By using the OpenGL VBO technique the ZW3D graphics run 2-3 times quicker. As well as the increase
in the display speed for large assembly files and individual parts and drawings, the speed of face analysis
display modes and print quality rendered scenes will be enhanced dramatically. In addition, the fast
graphics has allowed the faceting of surfaces using an absolute model tolerance instead of a
view-extent-dependent pixel tolerance, improving the quality of NURBS display.

1.3.2 New display modes
Shaded views without edges are now available in ZW3D2012. Users can easily apply the additional
display modes through the intuitive interface. A new function allows users to turn on/off drop shadow
display.

1.3.3 Improved quality graphics
An enhanced Anti-Alias option improves the display quality of parts. However, for some large
assemblies of parts, this feature could adversely affect graphics speed.

                                                                                                          6
1.3.4 New types of light sources in modeling environment
Three different light sources can be chosen, including eye light source, 2 direction light sources and 3
direction light sources. More real display of parts is available.

2. Faster design with extend capabilities

2.1 Highly enhanced data exchange for closer collaboration

ZW3D2012 supports more file types and offers better quality translation through enhanced data exchange
functionality, allowing users to work collaboratively with other 3D CAD/CAM systems.

2.1.1 Native STEP import/export
A native STEP translator, instead of third party integrated solution, produces better quality model
data and is at least twice as fast as the old system. For example, a 28Mb STEP file will take about 30
minutes to import into ZW3D2011. It will take just 2 minutes to import into ZW3D2012. Additionally, the
size of Z3 file is smaller in ZW3D2012, while the quality is maintained at the same high level. Extra
functionality for export allows the selection of target objects to be included in the export process.

                                                                                                            7

It will be integrated in Beta2 version.

4. Easier machining

4.1 New 2X turning

The new turning function supports OD and ID roughing, finishing, threading, and grooving operations.
Hole making operations are also included. The standard functionalities of tool library, operation
management, verification and simulation are also supported. The CL output is augmented to include the
necessary commands needed for Phase I Turning as provided in the ISO 4343 specification.

                                                                                                   24
4.2 New Operations in CAM

4.2.1. New face operation for Mill2X
The Facing Operation creates tool paths which efficiently machine large planar regions with arbitrary
boundaries or more complex planar regions with many holes and voids.

4.2.2 Undercut operation added to Quick Mill
This Operation provides the capability for creating 3x tool paths which remove material beneath
overhanging shapes. This Operation will allow the use of Wheel and T-Slot milling tools.

                                                                                                       25
4.2.3 New 3x Mill operation for multiple planar surfaces
This is a new special operation of 3X milling that lets users specify the milling of surfaces in the same
plane or surfaces in different levels of a plane in one operation.
