Trouble Shooting: Possible Solutions to Common Problems
Hearing aids always seem to act up at the most inconvenient
times. Here are some suggestions to help get you by until you
can get in to see us. Dead Hearing Aid:
1. Check for wax in microphone (a small opening, usually above
the battery door). Use brush to clean it if you see debris, wax,
dried skin, etc. Only use the brush– DO NOT pick at this area.
2. Check receiver (end that goes into the ear canal) for wax.
You may use the black stick with the pick on the end of it to clean
this area, then brush.
3. If you wear a behind-the-ear aid, check the end of the ear
mold for wax.
4. Check your battery. It could be dead. If you wear 2 hearing
aids and one is working and one is not, take the battery from the
one that is working and put it in the dead aid…that way you will
not waste a new battery.
5. Look in the tube on the behind-the-ear aid to see if there is
any moisture in the tube. Take to your specialist if there is.

2. If you are physically active, it is possible that your hearing aids
may have built up moisture inside the casing. Moisture can affect
both behind-the-ear and in-the-ear models.
Having a Dry-Aid moisture removal kit on hand and putting your
hearing aids in it each night when you go to bed may help
prevent having to send the aids in for repair. For your
convenience Dry-Aid kits available for purchase at our office.
