WINDOWS MOBILE BASED: POSSIBILITA’ DI INSTALLARE APPLICAZIONI AD HOC The initial TEAM solution that Motorola launched was the TEAM VoWLAN solution. The CEC division was able to leverage key intellectual properties and technologies to create a compelling enterprise-grade solutions that give customers choices in how they communication with each other within building or campus. From our mobile devices division we were able to leverage a smartphone platform that is optimized for voice on the WLAN. Using a smartphone platform (WiFi mode only) give users a toll-quality voice experience on the WLAN infrastructure. The TEAM devices act like an extension off the customer’s PBX system, allowing all the main functionality of a desk phone to be mobilized to the TEAM devices (called TEAM Enterprise Wireless Devices or EWPs). We were also able to use the IDEN Push-to-Talk technology (owned by Motorola), adapted to the WLAN infrastructure, to provide a market leading PTT solution to our users. Push-to-Talk is a quick (conversation starts in less than a second) efficient means of communicating for teams of people who work closely together during their shift when a telephone conversation takes too long to be effective (e.g., a nurse asking for help with a patient from an orderly 2 rooms away) or to replace overhead paging. This is based on unicast architecture, which allows private (single device to single device) and group PTT (up to 255 talk groups). Unicast allows a better usage of the WLAN in that only those devices that are active in a PTT conversation receive voice packets (note: other providers use multi-cast, which pushes voice packets to the entire WLAN on each use). So the TEAM VoWLAN solution brings compelling voice communication options to the enterprise worker. The TEAM architecture also includes a texting engine, which give yet another choice for communicating for teams of workers. Using a smartphone platform also allows us to leverage the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system to bring key enterprise data applications, such as email, calendar, PIM, to the campus worker without incurring monthly charges to a cellular service provider (i.e., $0 monthly operating expense). Windows Mobile also allows users to browse the internet or intranet, if this is key to their working situation. Also, since Window Mobile is a well established operating system, there are existing vertical applications that can be run on the TEAM EWP devices and ISVs can create customer applications to increase the effectiveness of workers.
Protocollo VoIP proprietario, ottimizzato per reti wireless
Let’s take a look at the architecture for the TEAM VoWLAN solution. The first thing to note is that TEAM fits into existing enterprise infrastructure. Your base infrastructure is a typical deployment of an IP-PBX over Ethernet (or if you have a TDM PBX, a gateway box, connected to your IP network). Motorola has tested against certain make, models and SW versions of IP and TDM PBX’s and more are being added to the list. Hanging off that infrastructure is the enterprise WLAN. This includes access points hanging off the wireless switch. With IP telephony you’ll have IP phones connected through the Ethernet. Companies generally already have all this – and we’re not going to change that, or ask companies to replace their existing systems, we’re going to overlay on top. On the left side you see the typical external architecture with connectivity through a telephone company connection through a firewall to the internet, to a publicly switched telephone network (the PSTN). We simply layer in the TEAM solution on top of the existing PBX and WLAN and the existing cellular network. The Wiresless Services Manager (WSM) is the heart of the TEAM solution; it provides the following functions: the WSM is a SIP gateway to the customer’s PBX. It manages the registration of the EWP’s onto the PBX and controls the signaling of phone conversations with the PBX the WSM is the Push-to-Talk engine of the TEAM solutions. This unicast-based PTT allows both private (conversation between 2 devices) and group conversations. This is sub-second set-up, walkie-talkie type communication the WSM houses the texting functionality, which allows EWP users to easily text each other the WSM allows for significant scalability, supporting up to 4500 devices off of a single PBX since the SIP protocol is a rather ‘chatty’ protocol (e.g., many ‘ping’s per second to ensure devices are connected), the WSM can buffer those pings to allow the device to be asleep as many nanoseconds as possible, allowing us to extend the battery life to up to 7-9 hours of continuous talk time and 170+ hours of stand-by time.
Compatibilità con radio tipo tutti le veicolari: dalle analogiche serie commerciale CM140 alle professionali serie GM300; inoltre anche le digitali MotoTRBO come serie DM3400 in addition to retail and manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality and education are key verticals that benefit from more choices and integration of mobility devices. healthcare: hospitals have arguably the highest percentage of mobile works in a campus environment. nurses, doctors, orderlies, maintenance and security staff all are in motion throughout their shifts. there is also a need for some of these workers to be able to communicate with other non-mobile workers (e.g., pharmacy, radiology, lab) through their key campus communications network: the pbx. certain communication devices are highly suitable for some workers, 2-way radios for security and ambulance workers, are totally unsuitable for other workers, nurses and doctors. additionally, some hospitals are still using digital pagers and overhead paging, which cause additional costs and interrupt the healing environment for patients. the team rls solution provide the right devices for each of these different workers to provide inter-communications throughout their shifts, enhancing their communication without impacting the healing environment. additionally, since the team ewp and mobile computing devices are also application platforms, we can integrate with key healthcare applications (e.g., nusrecall applications and medicine scanning applications) the increase the effectiveness of the healthcare worker and to help avoid mistakes. finally, since all of these devices work on the wlan network that is owned and under the control of the hospital it department, if there is a catastrophic event (e.g., major earthquake) the hospital can continue to operate without relying on the cellular network which typically becomes jammed in this situation. hospitality enterprises are currently investing in their wirless infrastructure and are now in a position to significantly reduce their operating expenses by trading cell phones and nextel ptt devices, which incur significant monthly charges, for ewp devices that can now communicate with their 2-way radio devices, which also increases their effectiveness. k-12 schools today have workers who need multiple devices (principals and administrators who carry vowlan devices and 2-way radios), are tied to a single device (maintenance workers w/ 2-way radios), or are tied to a non-mobile device (teachers with a wired phone in their rooms) and are unreachable when taking children to the library or recess. with team and rls, the principal now can have a single device for taking a call from a parent asking whether their child made it on a bus, with which they can also reach the bus driver (via ptt to the 2-way radio). teachers now can be reached where ever they are with their class, by multiple modes of communicaiton (pbx call, ptt, text, email), so in an emergency or lock-down situation they are reachable throughout the campus.
The TEAM VoWLAN solution includes the EWP1000 and EWP 2000 voice over WLAN Smartphones. EWP stands for Enterprise Wireless Phone. The EWP 1000 is the professional model, and the EWP 2000 is the semi-rugged version. Both phones have pretty much the same capabilities under the cover, with the difference being that the semi-rugged EWP 2000 is a bit tougher, surrounded by rubber and sealed better. Both include 802.11 a/b/ and g. It is important to support 802.11 a, because it has more channels, enabling easier implementation of non-overlapping networks to maximize WLAN coverage. The basic dimensions are cellphone size. The device will have sufficient power to last for at least a worker’s entire shift (assuming the talk-time is not constant, and there is some stand-by). The devices use Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, making them well suited to run applications. They have a 2 inch display with quarter VGA color. So it is small, but with high resolution, so you’d have to make sure your applications are suitable for that screen size. We support both HTML and WEB 2.0 much like cell phones. We have what was called high audio as a part of the push-to-talk. Typically with PTT and 2 way radios, when someone tries to reach you, it just blares out of the speaker. That’s called high audio because you want to hear it over a noisy environment. The devices can also use a push-to-talk headset with a 2.5 millimeter jack, which is the same set of headsets that work on Nextel phones. The audio can also be directed to the earpiece for an experience similar to a telephone call. The Smartphones support the Bluetooth 2.0 standard and class 2 standard for power. They have 128 megabytes of ram and 256 megabytes of flash memory, as well as a slot for an optional 2Gb micro SD, which is enough memory to support applications. Like many of our Motorola Windows Mobile devices, the EWP 1000 and 2000 support voice recognition and text messaging applications.
