The survey results provide valuable information for planning a new regional magazine:
- Respondents from a wide age range were surveyed to understand different target groups' interests. Both male and female answers were evenly split.
- Readers wanted the magazine to feature unique content not specialized by other magazines to make it appealing and competitive.
- Using the local region's colors in the design scheme would represent its connection to the local community and genre.
- Facebook was the most commonly used social media platform, important for marketing to younger audiences.
- City-based images on the front page were preferred over countryside scenes and indicate the themes that should be featured.

Market Research: Survey Results
I have conducted this survey in order to find out a great amount of
valuable information that will help me make big decisions for my
regional magazine. The survey will help me get a greater idea of
what the public and target consumers think should be important
to this new product and how they would be interested. I made it
very clear on the webpage used for my questionnaire what it was
being used for and how it will be used.
2. It is important for me to have asked a wide range of different ages in order to understand the
difference of what is appealing to the different ages in society. This will help me differentiate
what is expected from different target groups and what will be expected from my young
target audience. Although, it could be seen as having unfair results with a lot my answers
coming from one specific age range which were shared on social networking and emailed to a
range of different people.
3. I was able to get an even share between male and female answers which was a good split to
have in creating fair answers for my survey. Regional magazines are very much aimed at a wide
range of different people and aimed at both genders which allows companies to sell to more
customers and therefore make a major marketing scheme and also create bigger profit. I
thought it was important for there to be as good a split as possible
4. This was an important question in trying to understand what readers wanted to feature in the
magazine to make it more appealing and so it can beat any competitors that it may face. A
stereotypical regional magazine covers many areas which are often specialised by other magazines so
its important that my magazine offers something different. This links to the Uses and Gratifications
theory of surveillance and escapism which looks at my magazine offering entertainment and
knowledge.
5. This has given me an idea of the house style that should be used when planning and creating
my magazine. It was found that consumers would like to colour scheme to be associated with
the local region rather than being random chosen colours. This may be important as it also
connotes its connection to the local people and represents its genre type. It was also
important for me to understand whether people thought it was conventional for a regional
magazine to have this included in the design and whether it would help me meet the
audience ideologies.
6. Although it was important for
me to understand the
opinions of people who didn’t
want local crest colours. These
responses resulted in users
wanting bright colours linked
to the magazine to appeal to
the market.
7. I wanted to ask people about their main
use of social networking as it is a big part of
the lives of my initial target audience idea
of young people. This will allow my product
to be able to be both marketed at young
people but also allow the products to
create a greater relationship with the target
audience. My results clearly show that
‘Facebook’ was the clear winner in terms of
the most used social networking
site, although this could be quite biased
with many of the responses coming from
‘Facebook’ users although also asking
‘Twitter’ users.
8. It was important for me to know the attitudes and lifestyles that people have especially
when connecting themselves with the news or local stories. In my research I learnt there
were preferences towards actually finding out about the news by watching TV or reading
the internet. These personal preferences could have a major influence on my regional
amagzine in which I might need to make more appealing in order for it to be recieved
well by my target market .
9. I wanted to know how often people felt they read local news texts in order to help me plan
how often I was going to release my regional magazine. It also allows me to plan features and
how I would write specific artciles within the product. It will also be important when it comes
to producing my other two tasks in how they will also promote this main product .
10. The front page of any magazine is key in ensuring that potential consumers are interested.
Therefore I thought it was important to try and find out what was likely to be of greater interest
to readers in terms of either countryside or city based images or the regional area. I found that
having city based images were of greater importance to those that answered my questionnaire
in which a majority were what I believe to be my initial target audience. This is important for
me to have an easier job in marketing my product and also having a greater general idea on
what my audiences interests are. The busy and urban city setting connotes an idea of the
features that should also be included and the theme rather than what the countryisde would
connote.
