this plugin to search in the database, also with a pre-selected filter.
• We have a REST API - developers can easily create software to search in
the database and show individual titles. (this is being further developed, to
provide information in the Dublin-core format)
• Use the reference list tool
• Use the stored search tool, users can create a search query and keep
updated on new items

IRC provides a variety of information and documentation services related to water supply and sanitation in developing countries. With more than 40 years of experience in information and knowledge sharing within the WASH sector, IRC has built an online WASH Library that acts as WASH Sector memory documenting more than 40 years of sector progress, analysis and tools. The library provides direct access via the internet to a still increasing number of WASH sector documents. The collection is built around current themes of interest for the WASH sector and also contains documents produced outside the formal channels of publication and distribution.Other informations services that IRC offers include:E-Source website with WASH news and features Field stories and contest as part of learning and sharingWebinars as part of sharing etc.
My LibrarySince Nov/Dec. 2010, the library website (www.washdoc.info) is separate from the IRC website. It already had search functions for the library database, including searching by country, and links to thematic searches on some websites. MyLibrary provides features to make the library more useful, based on personal needs
What is it?Visitors can select titles from the library and add them to a reference lists; they can create and store multiple lists. Why?Creating such a list is helpful in preparing a reference list for papers, publications, etc,, as they can be exported to Word in a standard reference format. Reference lists can also be shared with other persons.Search :SearchesWhat is it?Visitors can store a search query (the words used for a search)Why?Storing a search query can help to find new publications on a topic of interest, and they can also be used to show an alway up-to-date list of relevant documents on any project/programme/partner site, providing additional value to IRC's regional and thematic work. The results are also availabe as an RSS-feed, providing additional tools to make it easier for visitors to keep updated using news reader or an email alert service
We use an inhouse numeric classification system in the library – this will change as we intend to use the thesaurus as the basis.‘Also we have a REST API, which means that other developers can relatively easily create software to search in the database and show individual titles. This is currently further being developed, and will soon provide information in the Dublin-core formatWe have the reference list tool, users can select titles from the library database and export this to RTF format for inclusion in papers or publications, using the Harvard reference formatThere is also the stored search tool, users can create a search query and keep updated on new items for that search, either by revisiting the site using the provided link, or using an RSS feed (read in email program, feed reader or import in website)Finally, we have thematic newsfeeds, users can indicated the themes and regions of their choice, and receive regular email message with news, including new titles in the library.
Information specialists have had to learn how to do a lot with just a little in order to promote awareness of their programs and services. They have seized the opportunities to market libraries in the real world via traditional media: newspapers, corporate newsletters, radio, and TV. Many libraries produce brochures, pathfinders, and their own newsletters. So it is no surprise to see librarians stepping up to the plate and spreading the word online with blogs. Savvy librarians have identified blogs as another means to market libraries and their services.
The purpose of preservation is to ensure protection of information of enduring value for access by present and future generations (Conway, 1990: 206). Libraries have served as the central institutional focus for preservation, and include preservation as one of their core functions. In recent decades, many major libraries and archives have established formal preservation programs for traditional materials which include regular allocation of resources for preservation, preventive measures to arrest deterioration of materials, remedial measures to restore the usability of selected materials, and the incorporation of preservation needs and requirements into overall program planning.
DL is added to expand the repertoire of the Pre-existing library services or complementary to existing one. It is also creating new services for a new orchanging market. DL has seamless provision of services that are responsive to the needs and interests of the communities served.2. It can provide consultancy services and advertising facility for the creation of revenue.
