Leader of the pack cannot afford to Falter
Giving a dog space to run
around is not enough.
One has to take the dog out for
walks regularly such that
he learns from you.
Do we, should we, would we or
Are we doing so
CONSISTENTLY, PERSISTENTLY

• We are all aware that dogs need enough space to run around, get
exercise and feel happy. And people who don’t have space, feel guilty
of keeping a dog confined in apartments.
• Yet only providing space alone does not make a dog happy and
psychologically healthy.*

• Dogs need to walk with their leader, even if they have enough space to
run around.
• Just providing them a big area, terrace, or a yard, for him and without
taking him for walk regularly, dog owners miss out on the most critical
aspect of the ownership : Demonstrating Leadership, through daily
walks.
• Walking for dogs is their basic primal instinct, its in their DNA. Animals
that usually live in packs walk for hours where in the pack is guided by
a leader who is responsible for major decision making, as where, when
and how to go or do.

If I take my dog out for walks properly,
the dog would be more obedient and
happy.
During these walks, he learns to accept
my leadership, follows me, and obeys
my instructions.
He learns all this by practice, instinct,
which over a time frame, becomes a
habit.
And no wonder, he at first grudgingly
accepts me as a leader, and then looks
forward to accompanying me, for those
walks.

Leaders like me create enough space
for my team, and are ardent students
of the participatory leadership style.
Yet fail to walk the talk and lead my
pack effectively.
Why?
Simple : team members want me to
personally demonstrate how I will lead
them to the next level, through self
exemplification, not self gratification
Not simply by giving them more space*.
I thus need to walk them regularly,
guiding them on path ahead and
reinforcing regularly who the leader
is.

• Reflect about the meetings wherein I address and discuss important
issues.
• Who leads the pack.
• Is there a leader or is it simply a bunch of people making noise and
taking discussions in all directions.
• Notice its same – as the owners out with their dogs for a walk, where
the dogs are pulling them and leading them.

Important for me is to walk and lead my pack and prove my leadership
skills.
I may be analytical, intelligent, great problem solver, the best
Management grad, I still need to know on how to show who is the leader
subtly, in the board room and across organization.

• Do I take initiative and show the big
picture to my team mates.
• Do I avoid taking the charismatic
leadership role.
• Am I a leader who gives a lot of
space, but don’t tell where to go,
what to do, and what not to do.
• Do I experience challenges from my
direct subordinates.
• Do I align organizational goals with
team aspirations.
• Do I take my team out for regular
walks and ensure that I lead them.
Examine my natural leadership style.

Your boss, board members, stakeholders do not want
to see you taking a bunch of dogs out for a walk and
each one of them pushing and pulling you in
different directions.
You will agree, it isn't a pleasant sight.
Think about it and act now.
