Online behaviour may appear coordinated either through coincidence or deliberate action, overt or covert. Recent events have shown that covert coordinated activity can shift online opinion dramatically. We devised a method to identify sets of accounts whose behaviour appears coordinated in different ways, based on network and temporal information sourced from social media, and tested it against two relevant datasets. To improve our approach, we reviewed a range of literature to identify new coordination patterns and non-network methods to apply. As a result, we have concluded that coordination varies by domain, may differ from coincidental behaviour only by degree or may require content analysis to identify. Future work will therefore move towards content-based analysis. Poster presented at the Australian Social Network Analysis Conference, 27-29 November 2019, Adelaide, South Australia.

We live in a world of data, of big data. A big portion of this data has been generated by humans, and particularly through their mobile phones. In fact, there are almost as many mobile phones in the world as humans. The mobile phone is the piece of technology with the highest levels of adoption in human history. We carry them with us all through the day (and night, in many cases), leaving digital traces of our physical interactions. Mobile phones have become sensors of human activity in the large scale and also the most personal devices. In my talk, I will present some of the work that we are doing at Telefonica Research in the area of human behavior understanding from data captured with mobile phones, and particularly our work in the area of Big Data for Social Good. I will highlight opportunities but also challenges that we would need to address in order to truly leverage this opportunity. Nuria Oliver is a computer scientist and Scientific Director at Telefónica. She holds a Ph.D. from the Media Lab at MIT. She is one of the most cited female computer scientist in Spain, with her research having been cited by more than 8900 publications. She is well known for her work in computational models of human behavior, human computer-interaction, intelligent user interfaces, mobile computing and big data for social good.

The International Conference of Crisis Mappers (ICCM) is the leading humanitarian technology event of the year, bringing together the most important humanitarian, human rights, development and media organizations with the world's best technology companies, software developers and academics. As thus one of the few neutral spaces where such important conversations can take place, the annual ICCM conference brings together a wide range of diverse actors for important conversations that lead to concrete new projects and deliverables across a variety of diverse domains. As a community of practice, the ICCM thus helps facilitate new projects and catalyzes innovation in the area of humanitarian technology.

Open foundation frameworks give a significant number of the administrations that are basic to the wellbeing, working, and security of society. A considerable lot of these frameworks, in any case, need persistent physical sensor checking to have the option to recognize disappointment occasions or harm that has struck these frameworks. We propose the utilization of social sensor enormous information to recognize these occasions. We center around two primary framework frameworks, transportation and vitality, and use information from Twitter streams to identify harm to spans, expressways, gas lines, and power foundation. Through a three step filtering approach and assignment to geographical cells, we are able to filter out noise in this data to produce relevant geo located tweets identifying failure events. Applying the strategy to real world data, we demonstrate the ability of our approach to utilize social sensor big data to detect damage and failure events in these critical public infrastructures. Merriam-Webster defines a totem as any supposed entity that watches over or assists a group of people, such as a family, clan, or tribe. In this presentation I will focus on how TOTEM assists in watching over and evaluating the threat an IP represents. The idea behind TOTEM is simple: compare threat information from sources such as watchlists (DShield, Emerging Threats, SenderBase, etc.) to activities with the organization (IDS/IPS, flow logs, etc.) and other locations (SANS ISC, DOE federated model, etc.). As new threat information and activity sources are added, a better evaluation can be rendered.

It’s easy to find and create data. But what are you going to do with it? Can I ask the world complex questions such as what’s the local crime rate, distance to metro, or rating of my local school? Can you combine these all together to rate houses you may want to buy? And how do you then connect back to your government and local businesses to engage in collaborative decision making. This talk with discuss how you should consider users and their personal interactions with data and information. We’ll also peel back the covers on how open source tools such as HBase, Cascading, Geos and Polymaps handle analyzing and streaming realtime data to maps and visualizations both on the web and to mobile devices. To illustrate what’s possible, we’ll dive through GeoCommons, a large online community of data sharing and community analytics that uses open source mapping visualization, Hadoop analysis, and mobile interfaces to provide this to the world. Users can even build and socialize their own analysis methods to share their expert knowledge with other users. We’ll also review how global organizations like the World Bank and United Nations are using these tools to connect with citizens in developing countries to empower them to make decisions on building investment and understanding how climate science may affect their areas.

The Raspberry Pi 5 was announced on October 2023. This new version of the popular embedded device comes with a new iteration of Broadcom’s VideoCore GPU platform, and was released with a fully open source driver stack, developed by Igalia. The presentation will discuss some of the major changes required to support this new Video Core iteration, the challenges we faced in the process and the solutions we provided in order to deliver conformant OpenGL ES and Vulkan drivers. The talk will also cover the next steps for the open source Raspberry Pi 5 graphics stack. Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “The Role of Taxonomy and Ontology in Semantic Layers” at a webinar hosted by Progress Semaphore on April 16, 2024. Taxonomies at their core enable effective tagging and retrieval of content, and combined with ontologies they extend to the management and understanding of related data. There are even greater benefits of taxonomies and ontologies to enhance your enterprise information architecture when applying them to a semantic layer. A survey by DBP-Institute found that enterprises using a semantic layer see their business outcomes improve by four times, while reducing their data and analytics costs. Extending taxonomies to a semantic layer can be a game-changing solution, allowing you to connect information silos, alleviate knowledge gaps, and derive new insights. Hedden, who specializes in taxonomy design and implementation, presented how the value of taxonomies shouldn’t reside in silos but be integrated with ontologies into a semantic layer. Learn about: - The essence and purpose of taxonomies and ontologies in information and knowledge management; - Advantages of semantic layers leveraging organizational taxonomies; and - Components and approaches to creating a semantic layer, including the integration of taxonomies and ontologies

With more memory available, system performance of three Dell devices increased, which can translate to a better user experience Conclusion When your system has plenty of RAM to meet your needs, you can efficiently access the applications and data you need to finish projects and to-do lists without sacrificing time and focus. Our test results show that with more memory available, three Dell PCs delivered better performance and took less time to complete the Procyon Office Productivity benchmark. These advantages translate to users being able to complete workflows more quickly and multitask more easily. Whether you need the mobility of the Latitude 5440, the creative capabilities of the Precision 3470, or the high performance of the OptiPlex Tower Plus 7010, configuring your system with more RAM can help keep processes running smoothly, enabling you to do more without compromising performance.
