Faculty Development
• Create an online writing and assignment resource for University Studies faculty,
focusing on FRINQ and SINQ courses.

• Assignments and activities are linked to specific outcomes, providing a model
for the outcome itself and helping faculty generate ideas for their own class.

• The assignments and activities provide models for scaffolding assignments and
student work, allowing faculty to share their ideas for improving the depth of
student learning.
Why create this resource?

~3,000 students were enrolled in either FRINQ or
SINQ courses fall term.

~80 PSU faculty members—from departments
across the campus—taught FRINQ or SINQ courses.
Who will benefit?

Faculty

    Provide strong models for innovative, engaging assignments and activities to both
    existing and incoming faculty.

    Encourage faculty to create processes for scaffolding assignments through
    providing clear examples.

    Lessen the burden on individual faculty, who benefit from ideas and input from
    their colleagues, and increase communication and collaboration between faculty

Students

    Generate further conversation around the connection between assignments and
    student learning.

    Create further cohesion in UNST courses across both themes and levels (FRINQ
    and SINQ).

    Help communicate the UNST goals and UNST outcomes for writing.
Funding for this project would allow us to focus on:

   •Architecture of the resource tool

   •Usability of the resource

   •Creating a culture of use
