2. DEVELOPMENT TOOL
PREZI
• Prezi is a website where users can create and design presentations. Also known as a “virtual whiteboard,” it gives those who view the
project a better understanding and visual of the ideas presented with movements.
Pro’s:
• Free
• Not full of linear slides like PowerPoint, but instead the user can add different movements in order to make the presentation come
alive.
• The three movements, or transitions, are proximity, rotation, and scale/zoom. Using these transitions make a Prezi come to life.
• Able to import PowerPoints
Con’s:
• Must create a user account to even look at the tools to create a project which can be annoying for those who just wan to create a
project without having to log in every time.
• Requires internet access in order to create projects, which can become a hassle when internet is unavailable and a project needs to
get done.
3. DEVELOPMENT TOOL
WEEBLY
• Weebly is a very easy to use and affordable tool for creating websites.
Pro’s:
• Free-$8 a Month (Weebly)
• Customizable websites including blogging, photo galleries, slideshows, and uploading audio/video files.
• Ads on your webpage are optional but collects statistical data on website views. (Weebly Features)
• Web-based; PC and Mac friendly.
Con’s:
• Limited languages (currently only supports English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Chinese)
• Does not include an integrated order management system
• Only accepts payments via PayPal or Google checkout. (Weebly Review: We test "free & easy" Weebly, 2013)
4. DEVELOPMENT TOOL
WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER
• Windows movie maker is a video editing development tool that allows users to crop video, audio, and even pictures together
in to one.
Pro’s:
• Free
• Specific songs can also be added for background.
• Easily manageable software; no video editing experience required.
• Affects and transitions which make video editing interesting and fun.
Con’s:
• Not for the advanced video editor; limited options compared to professional video editing software.
• Projects have to be saved frequently due to occasional crashing.
• Many versions of the product make it frustrating looking at tutorials.
• Not compatible with Mac.
5. COLLABORATION TOOL
GOOGLE+
• Google+ is a social network, much like Facebook. It gives users a way to connect with family and friends who
also have an account with the site.
Pro’s:
• “Circles” can be created, letting users separate their friends or people they know into different categories.
• Features including IM and video chat, allowing more ways to communicate with other people.
Con’s:
• Having to create an account. It is not a major issue, but it can seem inconvenient when just trying to catch up
with someone.
• Certain privacy settings can make all information on a user’s profile public, which means any information that
a user may not want others to know could be publically accessed.
6. COLLABORATION TOOL
ELLUMINATE LIVE!
• Elluminate Live! is an electronic learning, conferencing, and online collaboration tool designed for use in education.
Pro’s:
• Free for up to three users (TSUBATA: Elluminate offers classroom experience, 2008)
• Includes: note taking features, two-way interactive video, archiving and automatic indexing of e-learning sessions,
organizational tools for teachers (pop-up announcements, sorting of participants by hand raising, timers, and other features),
whiteboarding, and various other collaboration tools. (Nagel, 2009)
• Has helped to make the homeschooling environment more cooperative and allows children to work with other children
despite each being in their own homes.
Con’s:
• Mostly used in the field of learning, such as in the collegiate level, rather in the corporate world.
7. COLLABORATION TOOL
SKYPE
• Skype is a great collaboration tool for team projects because it offers voice and video calling between computers.
Pro’s:
• Free (much cheaper than its VoIP competitors.
• Very easy to install, subscribe, and use.
• Provides call waiting, voicemail, caller ID, call forwarding and call transfer.
• Windows, Mac and Android OS compatible.
Con’s:
• Security concerns
• Call and connection qualities are not always good
• Does not work well for multi-party calling.
• Limited features, lacks call return, and call blocking.
