4. Welcome!
Our aim is to provide students with a safe, fun, friendly and structured environment in
which to improve their knowledge of the English language and the world around them
while experiencing at first hand some of the UK’s best cultural heritage and enjoying a
wealth of activities. All this we hope will lead to the students having a truly memorable
BEO experience, which they will remember for years to come!
This handbook is designed to give you some important information about the Bradfield
College’s campus; where you and your students will be staying. A lot of the information is
key to the students safety and welfare so please take some time to read through it and
familiarise yourself with it. It contains details of the accommodation, facilities, meal times,
fire & safety information, emergency contact details, security and what the students will
need to bring with them.
When you and your students arrive at Bradfield College’s, the centre staff will also give you
a detailed tour of the campus and go over the important information featured in this
handbook, and if you or the students have any questions the Course Director and centre
staff will be able to answer them.

to sit with the Course Director and ask any questions you might have about the course or the centre.

All accommodation is separated by gender. Males must not under any circumstances enter the female houses and vice versa. Bathroom facilities
are shared at a ratio of 4 or 5 people to a shower or bath, and so students should be sensible and considerate of others when using bathroom
facilities.
All of the houses have excellent common room facilities with TV’s, DVD players, Pool tables and sofas. Students must also treat these with care,
and be considerate of others who are sharing the facilities. Any damage will be charged to students.
The students must be inside their own houses at 10:00pm after evening activities, and in bed with their lights out at 11:00pm. Students must NOT
leave their accommodation during the night for their safety and security and to make sure that they do not disturb others, the only instance when
the students should go outside is when the fire alarm is sounding; in this instance they should leave the building and wait outside their own house
for a member of ISIS BEO staff.
Bedrooms and common areas should be left in a tidy condition throughout so that the cleaners can service the rooms. Nothing valuable should be
left unattended anywhere, even in bedrooms.
13
There will be at least one member of ISIS BEO staff in residence in each of the houses, who will help to ensure that students are secure, happy
and that they behave appropriately.
14. Accommodation
Bedtime:
There is a campus curfew of 22:30. All students should be inside their own accommodation by this time, and should be in bed with lights out by 23:00. This
is to ensure that the students are safe and that they do not disturb others who are trying to sleep. Between 22:00 and 23:00 is quiet time, and the students
can be relaxing inside their common rooms or getting ready for bed but must be doing so quietly.
Laundry:
Each house has its own small coin‐operated laundry which is locked. The cost is £2.50 per load and the school has requested that group leaders assist
the students with their laundry so as not to damage the machines. The key is available from the course director.
Common Areas:
Students must be considerate of others within their accommodation. They will be sharing bathrooms and common rooms and so should always try
to be sensible with these facilities so that everyone can use them fairly. All of the houses have their own common room, these rooms have excellent
facilities such as televisions, pool tables, table‐football and table tennis tables. They are an excellent place for the students to socialise, relax and to
plan their projects with each other. They must however, try not to disturb others (no shouting etc.) and leave the rooms tidy. Students will be able
to use these areas until 10:45pm every day. There is also a small computer room in each house, housing 4 or 5 PCs. These computers are available
for the students to use, where they can send and receive email and research their projects. Students can access this room at any time during the
day and evening, but should be considerate of others wanting to use it too.
15. Campus Rules & Safety:
• NO SMOKING ANYWHERE on campus. This rule applies to students, group leaders and teachers. It is illegal for anyone under 18 to purchase cigarettes in the UK.
• NO ALCOHOL to be brought on campus. It is illegal for anyone under 18 to purchase alcohol in the UK.
• NO CHEWING GUM anywhere on campus. The local council fines £75.00 littering with chewing gum.
• NO BALL GAMES NEAR BUILDINGS OR CARS. Students must be careful of their surroundings and take care of school property.
• EVENING CURFEW 10.00PM —all students must be in their accommodation by this time and in bed by 11:00pm, students should not leave their accommodation
again after this time in the evening for their own safety and security.
• FIRE ALARM—If the fire alarm sounds at any time, everyone must evacuate the building and stand on the green in front of the main building in their school
groups. If it goes off whilst you are in accommodation you should assemble at the front of your house. A member of staff will come to take a register to account
for everyone. There will be a more detailed fire briefing given to all group leaders on arrival.
• FIRE ALARM—If anyone sets off the fire alarm deliberately there will be serious consequences and the students responsible will incur a serious fine of up to £500
and could be sent home. If an individual cannot be identified, the whole house will be charged.
• SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS—it is forbidden for any participants in the programme to enter in to any kind of intimate or sexual relationship and any participant who
breaks this rule will be sent home without refund and at the parents expense. If this rule is broken during the final week each of the people involved will have to
pay a fine of up to £2500.
• TATOOS AND PERCINGS— under no circumstances will this be allowed during the trip and any person disobeying this rule may be sent home.
• GENERAL—any violation of the any of the previous points or any behaviour not in keeping with the spirit of the competition may result in expulsion form the
programme or suspension from selected parts of the programme, this decision will be taken by the BEO Centre Director in conjunction with ISIS Head Office and
the school’s BEO Coordinator. 15
16. Security:
• On arrival group leaders should collect passports/ identity cards and spending money from their students to store in the Course Director’s
safe for security. It is best to organise the documents and money in a labelled envelope or bag and give it directly to the Course Director.
Group leaders will be able to collect student money from the Course Director at agreed times throughout the course to distribute to their
students.
• Students’ individual bedroom doors do not lock therefore students should not leave valuable items in their bedrooms. We would strongly
discourage students from bringing laptop computers as there are no wireless internet facilities and computers are provided by the college
for the students to use. Cameras, mobile phones and valuables should be kept on their person or locked in suitcases at all times and not
left unattended in bedrooms.
• Students and group leaders should not allow anyone else into their accommodation block, even students staying in other blocks, this is for
security and also because if any damage occurs within a residence the resident students will be held responsible for it. Members of our
staff will reside in all of the accommodation blocks to provide support and to help make sure that the accommodation is safe and secure
at night. In an emergency or if you have any questions about the security of the campus you should contact the Course Director.
Damage:
• Before you and your students arrive we carry out checks for damage in the accommodation and general campus and keep records of
anything we find. However to make sure that we are aware of ALL of the PRE‐EXISTING DAMAGE. please make a note of anything you notice
on arrival, make sure that you write a clear list describing the location and nature of the damage (for example you will need to write the
bedroom number and the name of the house if it is in the accommodation) and give it to the Course Director within 24 HOURS of arrival on
campus.
• If ANY damage is found on departure or during the course that was not pre‐recorded in this way by you or us; the student responsible for it
will be charged. If an accountable individual cannot be found for the damage, the WHOLE HOUSE (or if in the main campus ALL students) will
share the cost of the damage.
• On arrival, it will be emphasised to the students that they should not cause any damage to any college or ISIS BEO property, and that FINES
will be imposed if they do.
• If any student damages FIRE SAFETY EQUIPMENT or sets off the FIRE ALARM deliberately (or through irresponsible behaviour) they will be
fined up to £500.00. The fire equipment is vital for the safety of everyone on campus and should never be misused. This will also be
emphasised to all of the students during their induction on arrival.
17. Boys and Girls:
Houses are separated by gender, boys should not enter the female houses under any circumstances and vice versa.
Computer Rooms:
Computer facilities are available for the students to use, these computer rooms are situated in the classroom block. Students will be allowed to use
them when supervised by ISIS BEO staff or their group leader during timetabled access, probably in the evenings. They will be able to send and receive
email and research information for their projects. Again, students must share these facilities and so should remember that other students may wish to
use them too.
Out of Bounds:
Bradfield has large playing fields which the students are welcome to play on, however some of the football pitches at the back of the college are out
of bounds, no one should walk across them. The centre staff will point these out on your tour of the campus. If you have any questions about which
areas are off limits please do not hesitate to ask the centre staff. Students must not leave their accommodation at night, this is for their own safety
and security and there is CCTV surrounding all areas of the campus. Any Facilities being used by the students must be supervised by a member of ISIS
BEO staff.
Bathrooms:
All houses have shared bathroom facilities. There is approximately 1 bathroom to 4 or 5 people and so students should be aware of others needing to
use them. Students should also bring their own towels, shampoo and soap.
18. On Excursions:
There are a number of procedures and guidelines that Group Leaders need to be aware of when on excursions. Group Leaders must make sure
they board the correct coach, as boarding the wrong coach results in delays —coaches will have information
like this displayed at the front.
On full day excursions the students will be given packed lunches. Our staff will pick these up in the morning
and store them on the coach and they will be given to the students when they arrive at their destination.
Please make your students aware that the ISIS staff will enforce the following rules on board the coach; it would be helpful if you translate them
to the students so as they understand. These rules are not only for your comfort but more importantly for the safety of all.
NO SMOKING
NO EATING OR CHEWING GUM
NO STANDING
NO LEAVING RUBBISH ON THE COACH
On all coach trips the ISIS staff will introduce themselves and give a brief
description of the itinerary of the day. They will also check that all students have their ISIS identity cards, as well as a copy of the emergency
phone number with them. (The emergency phone number will be given to the students during their induction, it is the Course Director’s mobile
number, see the contact page at the back.)
