Fitting your own solar panels

2. Fitting Your Own Solar Panels
• A few large areas of our planet are covered today
by solar panels and buildings where solar energy is
harvested and distributed towards individuals and
corporate consumers. Unfortunately, there are
locations where green energy providers cannot be
found and in consequence, those that want to start
using this form of green energy have to start
making proper adjustments by themselves,
meaning to create their own solar panels and also
to place them on the roof of their house and make
the necessary changes by themselves.

3. What does fitting your own solar panels involve?
• Before fitting solar panels in an area where you don't benefit of green energy
providers, you have to actually build them. Of course, there is always the
possibility of buying them online, if there is no store in your area that could
provide you with solar panels. Even if you want to make them from scratch,
you will have to buy something: the solar cells. 36 mono-crystalline solar cells
will create a panel that can produce about ½ Volts. These cells have to be
wired in series. A mathematical calculus will tell us that a solar panel like this
will deliver around 18 Volts.
• Solar cells have to be placed in a wooden frame, which you can design by
yourself. Since you will be placing the solar panel on your roof, you have to
protect it against rain by adding a Plexiglas front. The cells have to be
soldered together in series, so that the energy will be transmitted from cell to
cell and then to your DC-AC inverter. When you connect the cells together,
you have to use a low wattage soldering iron and a Rosen pen, but very
carefully, because the cells are thin and delicate, and if you push too hard, you
could break them.

4. So, is it worth it? What are the advantages and
disadvantages?
• The disadvantage of fitting your own solar panels is that you have to
read plenty of information you find online or in various books that
deal with solar energy and solar panels. And, if you don't find the
right sources, some of that information can be quite confusing. But
once you will discover all the secrets of these types of project, you
will benefit from a clean, renewable and free energy source.
• Plus, if you build and install your solar panels yourself, even though
you have to put a lot of effort into it, you save a lot of money you
would have had to pay to a specialize company otherwise.
• So, you tell us, is it worth it to put a little effort into fitting your own
solar panels?
