1. East Enders

2. Which soap is this? East enders. I know this because of the location set and the theme tune which attaches what is on the screen, along with the Title itself.

3. Where is it set? East London. I know this because the clip opens with a close up on the 02 Arena, which is located in East London. I also know this is the location it is set in due to the River Thames, which is a big giveaway as a London Landmark.

4. Which institution broadcasts it? BBC. I know this because the soap itself is on the BBC1 channel, also the BBC title that lies beneath the East enders title, which shows the audience who institutes it.

5. When is it set? Presently. Due to the O2 Arena being placed right in the middle of the opening clip.

6. From the music, what do we assume about the lifestyles of the characters? Dull, boring, repetitive. There is peaks and trophs in the music, which represent when anything good happens, something bad happens which come along with it.

7. This first clip tells the audience that a young child lives here, due to a lunchbox,football,kit bag,felt tips, of which is all blue, which indicates this is a boy. The audience also know this young boy lives here due to the belongings misplaced everywhere. In front of all that, is a pair of brown boots, which look as if they belong to a grown man due to the size of them. They look misplaced, neatly next to one another ready to step into off the stairs which indicates the person who owns these does not live here. This next clip shows a manly hand grabbing for the brown boots as soon as he crept down the stairs. Connotation that he isn’t used to being their, and he wants to leave without being heard, which indicates that he’s done something he shouldn’t have done?

8. In the background a large pink teddy bear, a toy car, and another soft pink toy indicates children are present and live here due to belongings being scattered everywhere.Class is easily shown through the décor of the house, the stairs carpet is old fashioned which shows the person who owns the house cannot afford to decorate. This clip shows a woman coming down the stairs whilst doing up her dressing gown. Connotation that there may not be anything underneath, and herself and the man have been up to no good. Again, the décor in the background shows how she is unable to afford to decorate. A grey jumper is thrown over the banister, which looks as if it would fit a young teenage boy, which keeps reminding the audience that children are present here.

9. The woman says “ A goodbye would’ve been nice”. This instantly tells the audience that the man wanted to escape quickly without her knowing, and he might not have wanted to say goodbye at all. The next clip is the man looking up at the woman. Behind him is a ‘tacky’ leopard print wallpaper, which again, shows the lack of money available for decoration. The man looks as if he had been there overnight, due to dirty looking and not a very ‘clean’ look.

10. This clip shows a very average café where average people go to, due to the builders in the background, the ‘fight night’ poster, the tacky tablecloth, and the basic menu. All of these signs create meaning that this area the people are in isn't of a high standard. In the foreground is a middle-aged woman, with big blonde hair all groomed, full face of make up, having a coffee, being alone shows she may be worried at something. She looks a little out of place due to how ‘done up’ she is and does not suit the surroundings. Cut to a medium close up, the woman looks as if she has some money, due to all the jewellery, and the fact she can afford time to do her hair and make up that perfect, shows she has some sort of status, or she has to look like that for her lifestyle or occupation. On the phone to her is someone named Michael, who re fered to her as a prostitute. This gives the audience an indication of her occupation possibly?

11. This cut was linked to the one before, so we assume this is Michael. By looks of things, his costume and his surroundings shows that he is in some sort of profession. However, the dull, dark shadows in the background connote he is a dangerous, evil man. The office isn’t very up to scratch, with a microwave in the corner, old wooden walls, papers all over the place, and only light coming from one small desk lamp and one coming from top right hand corner, which looks as if its only coming from a bulb, shows he really just wants to be seen he has more status than he actually has. She then says, “How’s my least favourite person?” This shows she doesn’t particularly like this Michael.

12. Cut to a POV shot through the door, makes it seem as if the audience is really there and experiencing the situation. He seems to have a smirk on his face which shows he is evil and he isn't a very nice person at all. He mentions “Eddie” which could be something personal towards her and he is saying it out of spite. The clip is surrounding by shadows, which again connotes a villain? After the phone call has ended, the two builders turn their heads and look and almost laugh at her, as if they heard every word of the conversation.
