- Hi my name is Ursula Garcia and I am a Counselor Support Coordinator with Allied Schools. Today, I will be sharing information with you the booming renewable energy industry and tell you how Allied Schools can provide your clients with the training and supplemental services that they need to get jobs in the renewable energy industry.
- As I mentioned, we are going to be discussing renewable energy and how your clients can break into this rapidly growing industry. Also, we will be taking a look that the job market and the training that allied schools can provide to get your clients a Green Collar Job. I am then going to talk a little bit about Allied’s Accreditation and the Funding Sources that we work with here in our Vocational Rehabilitation department. In addition, I will go over some of the other Career Training Programs that we offer plus the Exclusive Benefits both our counselors and students can take advantage of with Allied. Last I will review what we discussed today and then I will open it up to questions.
- Let’s take a look at some recent Green News Headlines. Many of us have all heard about the green industry and green collar jobs. But what does this mean to you and your clients. Currently, government initiatives and stimulus money are spurring growth in the green industry. With a projection of 5 million new Green Collar jobs in the next 10 years, right now is the best time to get trained in renewable energy. For instance, for their upcoming conference in October, solar power international had already sold out a 900+ exhibit floor and is anticipating an attendance of over 22 thousand people. In addition, according to Reuters, the Obama administration just awarded $503 million for renewable energy projects. This funding allows companies to hire more employees to support over 5,000 renewable energy production facilities. Lastly, according to The Ticker, the outlook on Green Jobs is Promising. They were quoted as saying, “the green sector offers lucrative job positions that can very well turn into meaningful careers in the long run.”
- So many of you may be asking, is this just a fad or is the renewable energy market going to be able to sustain itself. My answer to you would be that this industry is the future. As I stated the government has already committed to doubling the US renewable energy industry by 2012 and plans to invest $150 billion over the next 10 years. Also, several hundred cities across our nation are actively looking at new ways to implement renewable energy to help cut costs in the long run. Additionally, from 1998 to 2007, the number of jobs in the clean energy sector grew 2 and a half times faster than other jobs overall. This figure, although quite modest, is expected to increase as the public and private sectors continue to invest more in clean technology and with all this new stimulus money, we have just begun to see the beginning of the potential job growth in this industry. So what does this all mean to you? Why green? It means opportunities.. It means jobs! We understand that your clients are either unemployed or disabled and this is the training that is going to give them the jobs of today. These are no longer the jobs of tomorrow. They ARE the jobs of today.
- So what is the job outlook for Green? Excellent. The growing clean energy economy is producing well-paying jobs in every state, led by California, for individuals of all education and skill levels. New legislation is going to make a lot of the initiatives that are currently in government mandatory. So the more training you clients get, the more marketable to employers they can become. So lets take a look at some of the sectors that are showing the greatest job growth: Researchers working on solar, wind and geothermal energy Solar panel installers Wind turbine workers Workers who retrofit buildings to make them more energy efficient Workers who specialize in alternative, environmentally-friendly building materials And Workers involved in the development of electric and hybrid cars Subsequently, as you can see, the job outlook IS excellent!
- Now let’s take a look at how Allied can provide your clients with the training needed to get into the Green industry. We’re going to start by looking at Allied’s Business of Solar course. This course provides a foundation of fundamental knowledge in all major operations of a solar energy business. Knowledge of the applications of solar energy in homes and businesses will prepare your clients to promote the environmental, heath and financial benefits of solar energy… A real advantage in any vocation they may choose. Some of the topics covered in this course will be: Our students will be able to classify useful energy conservation methods and ways of being energy efficient Identify the Photovoltaic or PV industry and how much energy a PV system will produce And Identify the benefits of using solar PV systems in the real estate market So what does this mean in terms of career opportunities? It means, your clients will be prepared to pursue a solar business opportunity, enhance a real estate career or a business career. It is important to remember that in the Solar Renewable Energy Industry, the jobs available are not limited to hands-on labor, but there are also career paths in this market for clerical, finance, design and sales positions. This is why we have made this course available either as a stand-alone course or you can combine it with our Real Estate or Business courses for comprehensive knowledge.
- Our next solar renewable energy course is Introduction to Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. This course is the starting point for a career in solar electric technology. It provides trade knowledge of photovoltaic systems and prepares students to sit for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge exam. Passing the exam enhances your clients' career opportunities and shows potential employers that they have achieved the basic fundamental knowledge required by NABCEP to enter into this field. With this course, students will learn: How to conduct a site assessment, and maintain and troubleshoot PV systems They will also Know the workings and uses of inverters, batteries, charge controllers, and other balance-of-system components In addition, students will also be able to identify safety hazards, practices and protective equipment that is used during PV system installation and maintenance Furthermore, students are given the study guide for the NABCEP Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge exam. Upon completion of this course, we strongly encourage our students to go on to take this certifying exam. The knowledge learned in this course along with a certification from NABCEP is going to prepare our graduates for a career as an apprentice or assistant PV installer.
- The Advanced Principles of Photovoltaic Systems Installation course builds upon the knowledge obtained from the introductory course and delves deeper into photovoltaic installation techniques. This course satisfies the requirements to sit for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) PV Certification exam. In addition to fulfilling educational requirements, you must meet NABCEP work experience requirements in order to qualify to take the PV Installer certification examination . In addition to our Solar Training Programs, Allied has launched a new course titled Home Energy Survey Professional. With rising energy costs, homeowners nationwide are looking at ways to reduce costs and tap into stimulus money available to home owners wanting to make their homes more energy efficient. Our course will teach our students about the fundamentals of conducting a home energy audit, including the importance of energy-efficiency, the principles of building pressure and air movement, the different types of energy audits and the required areas of inspection/testing. Allied's Home Energy Survey Professional Program will prepare our graduates for the RESNET (Residential Energy Services Network) Home Energy Survey Professional certification exam.
- Now that we have learned a about the various training programs that Allied can offer for those clients wanting to get into the renewable energy industry, I would like to talk to you a little bit more about Allied Schools. Allied schools have over 17 years in business and to date, we have had over 825,00 students attend our school. In addition, we are proud to say that we are Nationally Accredited through the Distance Education Training Council or the DETC which is recognized by the US Department of Education. We are licensed by the Calif. Dept. of Real Estate and the Office of Real Estate Appraisers. Also, we are approved by the Appraiser qualifications Boars and have all of our programs list on the California Eligible Training Provider List. Additionally, we are a member of some of the following organizations, and I’ll just name out a few: California Association of Rehabilitation and Reemployment Professionals, American Institution of Professional Bookkeepers, Housing Inspection foundation and International Association of Administrative Professionals.
- Here in our Vocational Rehabilitation Department, we have established relationships with the following funding sources… - read all sources- All the Admissions Representatives in my department are specially trained to know not only how these funding sources work, but also are familiar with the approval process in order to help not only our Counselors but also help our Students spend less time enrolling in our Career Training Programs and more time working toward their future careers.
- Today I have told you a lot about the new Green Training Programs here at Allied. However, we also have many other career programs that would suit many of your other clients Career goals as well. We offer Real Estate, Medical, Business and other Professional careers.
- When dealing with both WIA and DOR clients, we understand that tracking is very important if not crucial. In response to our Case Managers and Counselors needs, we implemented a service call On Track Personal Service or OTPS. This service provides… Specially trained personal advisors that will help motivate and help guide your client through the training process. They will receive one on one instruction through daily phone calls and correspondence. For you the counselor, your clients assigned academic advisor will provide you weekly progress reports. This subsequently provides (TEAM?)
- I would like to take a moment to show you what will be included in the detailed reports that would be sent to you by your clients Academic Advisors.
- At the end of the day, we understand that the goal of sending your clients through training programs is to assist them in finding gainful employment. Another one of our supportive services available is our Job Assistance Network or JANET. This service provides… Specially trained personal advisors that will help motivate and help guide your client through the training process. - I have worked with both WIA Case Managers and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors now for several months. One common trend is that each of you are required to create a detailed program for each one of the clients that you work with. Here at Allied, we strive to be an extension of that detailed service. We begin by providing a detailed training program for your client by enrolling them one of our Nationally Accredited Career Training Programs. Additionally, we pride ourselves in being able to provide supportive services such as our OTPS, JANET and even Live Educational Support which is available to your clients via a toll-free number Monday through Friday. Additionally, with the convenience of a distance education training format, clients' will have the flexibility to complete their training at their own pace. This also enables them to continue with training even if they are working or if a job opportunity presents itself.
