During this unit students will learn of different kinds of plants. Plants that live in cold climates, hot climates, need sunlight, some that don’t need sunlight, etc. We will study/discuss a different plan each day. Each student will be required to do a project in this unit (Grow Plant, Grow). Students will pick a plant from a list provided by the teacher to grow at their house for two weeks. The students will be required to write a daily log about what their plant looks like and any grow/changes that the plant had each day. The students will also be required to take pictures of their plant every 3 days. At the end of the two weeks, each student will present their plant to the class, with a presentation about their particular plant. They will also need to bring their plant (that they grew at home) to class that day. I think this unit and project will be informational and fun for the students.,[object Object],Summary of Unit,[object Object]
The role of the teacher is to teach and guide the students along. I will be teaching the students each day about a different plant. We will also be doing different activities related to plants throughout each week. I will also ask them each day if there are any questions they have about their projects they are doing at home. I will answer their questions and tell them of any announcements there may be. ,[object Object],Role of the Teacher,[object Object]
Students will be responsible for a growing a plant at home for two weeks. They will be responsible for taking pictures of their plants, writing in a daily log about their plants, and creating a presentation about their plant. Parents please help children with growing the plant and remembering the tasks that need to be completed within the two weeks. ,[object Object],Role of Parent and Student,[object Object]
The unit and project will teach students more about plants. It will teach them the different things plants need to grow, how plants grow, what plants look like, and the daily tasks needed to help plants grow. The project will also help students with learning responsibility by having to grow their own plant and doing other tasks required for the project.,[object Object],Benefits of the Unit,[object Object]
ACOS: SC :7 (3rd grade): Describe the life cycle of plants, including seed, seed germination, growth, and reproduction.,[object Object],ACOS:SC:10(3rd grade): Determine habitat conditions that support plant growth and survival.,[object Object],Standards for this Unit,[object Object]
Students will know the life cycle of a plant, about the seed, the growth, and the reproduction by growing their own plants.,[object Object],Students will be able to state the different conditions certain plants can survive in and the conditions they won't.,[object Object],Objectives for the Unit,[object Object]
Is learning through experience/hands-on learning.,[object Object],It gives students a different way to learn than just by lecture. It lets them use their cognitive thinking skills.,[object Object],It shows a connection to real-world situation by having them grow their own plant, which many people do today. ,[object Object],Let students work together in groups on different scenarios/activities. ,[object Object],Project Based Learning,[object Object]
How Project Based Learning will be implemented in my classroom?,[object Object],The students will learn by doing hands-on activities, in which they will grow their own plant.,[object Object],By having a project and other activities throughout the unit that the students will learn through project-based learning. The students will use their cognitive thinking skills by doing these tasks.,[object Object],By having the students grow their own plants it helps them to connect it to real life, when their mom or someone they know who grows plants.,[object Object],The students will work together in small groups doing different activities about plants throughout the unit.,[object Object]
