Safely working at heights requires completion of three criteria. How one works safely at heights is determined by the way the

Working safely starts with the correct purchase. Employers
must have their employees work with material which is
suitable for professional use. In practice, it has become clear
that the correct material is not always purchased. This can be
a conscious or unconscious choice. People only become aware
of the consequences after an accident. The most important
consequences relate to the health of the employee of course,
but financial liability can also have serious consequences.
In addition to the fact that the employer must take his
responsibility to protect the employee, the employee also
has an individual responsibility to alert the employer of any
problems with the ladder or scaffold for instance.

Safe and

Inspections are not only important because of the safety of
the user. Regular inspections and maintenance also improve
the lifespan of the materials. This is why the inspection must
be carried out by an expert. Visual inspection prior to use
continues to be of importance throughout the year, because
an inspection is only a snapshot of the situation.

Many accidents with access equipment are caused by using
malfunctioning material and/or inexpert use. Unfortunately, the
safety measures are sometimes not observed in practice. This
creates unnecessary risks, from a safety, as well as a financial
point of view. It is important to follow the manufacturer’s
instructions/manual.

Altrex Mobile Safety® provides QR codes on products; these
codes link to instructions for use, manual and videos for safe
use.
Using a Smartphone, the QR code gives immediate digital
access to the video and/or instructions for use and assembly
instructions of the products. As increasing numbers of users have
Smartphones, this innovation means a significant increase in
safety for users.

The Mobile Safety® QR code offers many benefits:
A digital version of the manual for assembly and use is always to
hand
When on the job, a user does not always have the paper
booklet with the instructions/instructions for use to hand. With
the Altrex Mobile Safety® QR code, the user always has a digital
version of the current manual to hand both during assembly and
disassembly, and when using the product.

Various products have already been provided with a Mobile
Safety® QR code. In phases, more products will be provided
with these codes. The rolling tower and folding tower platforms
and the longitudinal carriers of the Modular Suspended Platform
system already have QR codes. This also applies to, for example,
the telescopic ladders and the Double Decker household
stepladder.

Always the latest version and always in accordance with current
regulations
Regulations change over the years. A huge benefit of the Altrex
Mobile Safety® QR code is that the latest instructions for use/
manual for assembly and use can immediately be consulted.
A choice from several languages
With the QR code, a digital version of the manual can be
consulted easily and quickly in various languages.

After scanning the QR code using a Smartphone, the manual/
instructions for use are immediately available. Of course, a paper
booklet with instructions for safe use is also supplied with the
products.

What is a QR code and how does it work?
The QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that refers back to a URL. QR is an abbreviation for Quick Response.
The user points his smartphone at the QR code and scans it.
A QR reader in the phone then converts this into a URL and the telephone’s web browser shows the corresponding
website. The applications for scanning the QR codes can be downloaded from the smartphone’s market/appstore.

Safety / Laws and Standards Ladders Stepladders
Working safely at heights is largely dependent on the quality of the product. Altrex provides products which at least meet the standards
and laws which often vary per country. These standards and laws feature detailed requirements on how the product is to look, how strong it
needs to be, and how much load it has to be able to bear.

Altrex makes high demands of the quality of its products. This
applies to the development of a new product, but also the
quality in production. In order to test both, Altrex has its own
specialised test laboratory. The working method of the test
laboratory is assessed as being of an extremely high standard by
various certification bodies.
EN131
The EN131 is the European standard for ladders, folding ladders
and steps.
Durability of folding ladder folding hinges
In Altrex folding ladders, the Cycle logo shows the durability of
the hinges. The European standard EN 131 for folding ladders
has a durability test for the hinges in which the hinges have to
be opened and closed at least 4,000 times. All Altrex folding
ladders of course meet this standard and are able to withstand
4,000, 8,000 or even 12,000 ‘cycles’, depending on the type.

Unique Red Rung / Step
At Altrex, safety comes first. The Altrex Red Sport (on a ladder)
and the Altrex Red Step (on a step). The Red Rung/Step indicates
a maximum safe standing height: maximum Step Height for safe
use.
Detailed user manual
Altrex thinks the safe use of its products is of great importance.
This is why ladders, folding ladders, telescopic ladders and step
ladders are supplied with a special booklet with a detailed user
manual.

Safety / Laws and Standards Scaffolding
Strict standards and legislation apply to suspended platform systems. Working safely at heights involves various risks. In many
countries, strict rules apply to professional use. This makes sense, because the material is used intensively. The requirements which
work equipment such as suspended platform systems, scaffolds, ladders and stepladders have to meet is recorded in a range of
standards and legislation. Below follows an explanation of the most important standards and other information for suspended platform
systems. The symbols for this can also be found on the product pages.

EN 1004
The current European standard for rolling towers is the EN 1004.
This standard makes more demands of the rolling towers than
the expired standard HD 1004. The Altrex rolling and folding
towers referred to on this site meet the EN 1004 standard
and are equipped with the required strength and stability
calculations.
EN 12811
The current European standard for facade scaffolds is the EN
12811. This standard applies to all non-rolling scaffolds.
EN 1298 and extensive manual assembly and use
It is recorded in European standard EN 1298 which requirements
the manual for assembly and use of scaffolds have to meet.
Altrex places great importance on the safety of its products in
use. The extensive manuals assembly and use of Altrex-scaffolds
are drafted in conformity with EN 1298.

Altrex’ standard configurations are equipped with strength and
stability calculations. Altrex has the specialist to make the
complex calculations for the special scaffold configurations
as well. This does not just concern the carrying out of the
calculation, but in particular the analysis and interpretation
of the calculation results demands expertise. It is mainly the
material characteristics, strengths, element types and element
sizes which determine the results.

ladders, stepladders and scaffolds

Strength and stability calculations
The European Work at Height Guideline makes requirements
of working at height. These requirements are incorporated in
the legislation and regulation of the various European member
states. The scaffolds are required to be calculated, signed and
tested in conformity with these rules.

The Altrex Heavy Duty Folding/Rolling Tower 3400 consists of four modules.
The folding tower (module A) can be assembled quickly and easily to a rolling tower with a working height of 3.80 m (module A+B)
or 5.80 m (module A+B+C) or 7.80 m (module A+B+C+D). The Folding/Rolling Tower 3400 is suitable for semi-professional as well

Parts

Standard Configurations

The Altrex 5000-series Modular Scaffolding System offers a
wide range of possibilities for safe working at great height.
The large number of parts makes it possible to assemble
several standard configurations. Due to the great number
of parts and the existence of standard configurations,
many combinations of configurations are also possible.
Some examples of the mentioned parts are: several
walkthrough
frames,
triangle
bridges,
aluminium
stages, guardrail frames, braces and scaffold stairways.

With the parts of the 5000-series Modular Scaffolding System Altrex
has already developed a number of standard configurations. These
configurations are calculated in accordance with present standards
and regulations, like EN 1004 and EN 12811. Examples of the standard
configurations are: Rolling Towers 5100/5200, Stairway Tower 5300,
Folding Towers 5400/5500 and the Modular Triangle Bridge (MTB).

The Modular Triangle Bridge is equipped with uniquely shaped trusses, available in 2 m, 3 m and 4 m versions. The Modular Triangle
Bridge can be used easily, quickly, and for a variety of purposes by painters, plumbers and facade renovation companies for family
homes for instance. The Modular Triangle Bridge has been especially developed to obtain ergonomic advantages. Modular Triangle Bridge (MTB) as
edge protection for sloping and flat roofs
The Modular Triangle Bridge (MTB) offers many applications and
can now also be used as an edge protection for sloping and flat
roofs. The combination of work bridge and simultaneous edge
protection is unique. New supportstands and guardrail frames with
safety nets are available for this application. The new application
is ideal for working safely on a sloping roof, such as when fitting
and maintaining roof coverings, solar panels and dormer windows.
The roof edge protection is also suitable for work being performed
on and physically taking place on flat roofs, as the edge of the roof
then remains free.
Guardrail frames with or without safety nets are available. The MTBDRB guardrail frames (1.70m high) with safety net can be split in
height (1 m and 70 cm) making transport very easy. The guardrail
frames with safety nets are available in three lengths: 2, 3 and 4
meters. This allows for various lengths of edge protection between
6 and 12 meters.
In order to be able to continue to guarantee the safety of the safety
nets in use, the safety standard demands an annual check of the
net. After 4 years, the net must always be replaced as a precaution.
The nets are easy to assemble and replace on the guardrail frames.
A great advantage of the new edge protection is that it is easy to
build by 2 people from the ground. The Triangle Bridge is easy to
lift to the correct height with a winch.
The Modular Triangle Bridge with edge protection meets the EN
13374 and is approved by the respected independent Swiss test
institute SUVA. The edge protection is suitable for class A, B and C,
as indicated below.

Edge protection on flat roofs

The Altrex edge protection allows you to work safely on flat roofs. The Edge protection consists of only three parts: roof console,
double guardrail brace and a counterweight. The handy claw mechanism allows for a safe, quick and easy assembly. The double
guardrail can therefore be positioned easily. A ballast of 20 kg is required per leg console. The double guardrail braces are available
in two lengths 2.45 m and 3.05 m. The toe boards are only necessary if there is no raised border on the roof of at least 15 cm.

Altrex presents the Safe-Scaf Anti-climb Protection. An innovative solution enabling a rolling scaffold to be left behind on public sites
safely.

When leaving a rolling scaffold behind
at public sites, (e.g. shopping streets,
school playgrounds, at houses etc.),
an employer is obliged to enclose
the rolling scaffold as if it were a

Accessories Scaffolding
Altrex Scaffold Workbench
With the Altrex Scaffold Workbench it is possible to have anything that may be required for
work, such as tools and paint, on the scaffold easily close to hand. The Scaffold Workbench
is not suitable as a platform and is therefore not a standing surface.

Trolley units for rolling tower
The new Altrex Rolling Tower Trolley is a specially designed mean for transport and storage
of rolling towers and exists of two trolley units. The trolley units, combined with wheels
and guardrail frames of a rolling tower, form the rolling tower trolley. With the trolley units
a complete rolling tower configuration of up to 8.20 meter platform height (10.20 meter
working height) can easily be bundled and transported.
