16. Hyperion solar-adaptive shading
™
What it does The benefits
Hyperion solar-adaptive shading automatically adjusts • 10-30% reduction in solar heat gain1
window shades based on the sun’s position throughout • 3-29% reduction in heat loss1
the day to effectively manage the daylight in your building, • preserves external views
reduce glare, and save energy. • maximizes effective daylight
• increases comfort and reduces glare
The system operator inputs the desired sunlight penetration • creates an aesthetically pleasing
distance into the building and the number of shade preset exterior by perfectly aligning shades
positions. Then, Hyperion solar-adaptive shading automatically
calculates the angle of the sun and adjusts the shades
to maintain the preferred light penetration.
At night the shades are lowered to minimize light pollution

14 | Lutron while maintaining the view outside.
17. How it works
As the sun moves throughout the day, Hyperion™ solar-adaptive shading
automatically adjusts the shade position without the requirement
for a complex array of external sensors. The Lutron out-of-the-box
solution allows simple set up based on the building’s geographic
location and user specified sunlight penetration.
Additionally, manual override – via simple keypads or handheld remote –
allows the user to adjust an individual window shade if required.
Compared to sensor based shading systems, the Lutron system
provides less movement and less distraction to occupants.
Shade: Closed
At sunrise the light and heat penetrate the building
so the shades remain closed for comfort and energy
savings, while still having access to the view.
Shade: Preset (Open 50%)
The sun angle is higher so shades open to preset
position to maintain the customer desired sunlight
penetration, and to reduce glare.
Shade: Open
Sun angle is at a point where glass reflects a majority
of the heat, plus light penetration is limited to 2 – 3 ft.
into the building. Shades automatically open to allow
maximum use of effective daylight.

18. Q-Admin software highlights
™
Beyond light control to light management
The heart of the Quantum™ solution is Q-Admin—Quantum’s powerful software
that allows facility managers to manage their electric light and daylight for
maximum energy efficiency, comfort, and productivity. From a central location,
a facility manager can not only control electric lights and shades but also
configure, monitor, analyze, and report on the light in an entire building.
Control and monitor
Allows you to control and monitor any space in your
building by area scene, area level, or individual zone.
16 | Lutron
19. Timeclocks
Q-Admin™ software includes two types of timeclocks, a time-of-day
clock (e.g. 8pm weeknights) and an astronomic clock (e.g. dawn or dusk),
which control the lights and shades on the Quantum™ network. Lights
can automatically be set to a preset level or turn on or off in certain
spaces based on the time of day; and shades can automatically raise
or lower in certain spaces at specific times.
Lutron | 17
20. Q-Admin software highlights
™
IntelliDemand™ load shed
Allows facility managers to shed a percentage of the system’s lighting output
to reduce energy costs for their facility. This can result in lower electricity rates
or rebates from utility companies, who often request reductions in electricity
levels when peak load conditions threaten to cause a blackout. With Q-Admin™
software, simply set the percentage reduction in light level and instantly
load shed your entire facility or particular space from its current power level.
18 | Lutron
21. Reports Reports include:
Allows facility managers to improve maintenance and operations, • lighting power or energy usage
identify issues before they become problems, and monitor the lighting • system activity
energy consumption in the whole building or any part of the building. • fluorescent lamp failures

employees to save energy, or to support their organization’s reputation for
being green and socially responsible. They can also use Green Glance as
an educational tool to display their facilities’ economic and environmental
