Replace Front Shock Absober
 Shock absorbers consists of spring which
determine posture and cushioning buffer action
and a damper which suppresses vibration
 The shock absorber is installed between the car
body and the tire, along with a spring. Elasticity of
a spring damp shocks from road surface,
however,it causes vehicle to vibrate due to its
resilience characteristics. The part serves to damp
shocks is referred to as a"shock absorber", and
viscous resistance force is referred to as "damping
force".
 Shock absorbers are a critical product that
determines an automobile's character, not only
by improving ride quality but also by
functioning to control the attitude and stability
of the vehicle
 a bump stop is a rubber placed in the shock
absorber piston to prevent it form bottoming
out.
 Double-tubed shock absorber with a function
as part of the surpport structure of the
suspension. Like the double wishbone type, it
is a shock absorber filled with low-pressure
nitrogen gas that is supple and provides stable
riding comfort.
 Structurally, this is a single-tube type placed
upside down. In case of structs bears a heavy load
from the vehicle body, however, this type of shock
absorbers with large-diameter pipe provide
sufficient rigidity.
Instructions
Preparation
1. Park the car on a relatively level surface.
2. Loosen the wheel's lug nuts.
3. Place chucks (a rock or a wooden wedge) behind the
rear tires.
4. Jack up the front of the car. Be sure to place the jack
under the frame and not the suspension system.
5. Position jack stands under the car's frame.
6. Remove the wheel.
 Remove Old Shock
 7. Loosen and remove the lower attachment bolts and nuts of the shock
absorber, and remove them.
 8. Grasp the shock absorber piston with a set of vice-grips.
 9. Use a wrench to remove the upper attachment nut from the shock
absorber piston rod.
 10. Remove the old shock absorber.Replace Rubber Bushings and
Grommets
 11. Set the first grommet on the shock absorber piston rod with the
convex side up.
 12. Slide the rubber bushing on the shock absorber piston rod. Push it
down until it is seated on the grommet.
 13. Put the second grommet on the shock absorber piston rod with convex
side down, so it seats nicely on the bushing.
 14. Remove the plastic strip from around the shock, if one exists.
Sometimes the factory will place one on new shocks to avoid compression
during shipping.
 Observe your car from the front. With the car
on a flat surface, it should appear perfectly
level, i.e. both sides being the same height off
the surface.
 Push down on the front of the car to test for
weak shock absorbers. This is not a scientific
test and is somewhat subjective. But it can be
helpful when taken in conjunction with other
checks made.
 Visually inspect the struts or shock absorbers.
Look for signs of liquid that is or has been running
down the shock absorber. If present, then your
shock absorbers could be bad. Once the seals begin
leaking, the shock absorber becomes ineffective.
 Instructions
 1. Push up and down vigorously on the front and then the rear of the
vehicle. This is the oldest and most dependable way of checking shock
performance. This may be difficult on some vehicles due to their body
style and lack of protruding bumpers with which to push. The vehicle
should exhibit resistance to pushing down, and when the front or rear is
rocked, the vehicle should stop rocking immediately when released. If it
keeps rocking, the shocks are worn out.
 2. Drive the vehicle over a rough surface. If the vehicle has any amount of
rocking or pitching it is a good indication of worn shocks. Drive the
vehicle slow and momentarily tap the brakes. If the nose dives or rocks
two or three times before coming to rest, the shocks are worn. The shocks
do not support the vehicle--they just provide resistance to the up and
down movement of the vehicle. If you held a shock and tried to depress
it, you would find it extremely difficult. The same thing applies to trying
to extend the shock.
 3. Raise and support the vehicle on jack stands. Inspect the shocks for oil
leaks, which indicate a bad seal. If the shocks
 Install the New Shock Absorber
 15. Place the new shock between the upper and lower suspension arms.
 16. Push the shock absorber piston rod through the hole in the upper
suspension arm.
 17. Tighten the upper nut onto the shock absorber piston rod.
 18. Compress the shock, using slow and gradual pressure, until the
bottom of the shock lines up with the mounting holes on the lower
suspension arm.
 19. Insert the bottom bolt through the lower mounting holes and the
bottom of the shock absorber.
 20. Screw in the lower nut onto the lower mounting bolt.
 Finish Up
 21. Replace the wheel.
 22. Tighten the lug nuts onto the wheel's lugs.
 23. Lower the car from the jack stands.
 24. Screw in each lug nut one quarter of a turn.
