Dr. R.K. Khandal, a fellow of the Royal Society of
Chemistry, London and a unanimously elected
President (for the period 2010 to 2012) of
WAITRO ,took over as Vice – Chancellor of
GBTU on September 19, 2012.

4. • Born on September 6, 1957, he obtained his
Ph.D. degree in Applied Chemistry from Indian
School of Mines, Dhanbad and started his
career from there in 1982 as a lecturer.
• In the year 1991, he joined as a head of R & D
with a reputed company, which is the largest
producer of surfactants from renewable
resources in the world.
• By virtue of working for a considerable
number of years in the industry, he acquired
the skills of converting ideas into reality

5. • For the last over eleven years, as a director of
an internationally reputed research institute
of its kind (self-sustainable) in the world, Dr.
Khandal became known for his contribution to
Industrial Research, leading to value-creation
and value-addition in various sectors.
• As a research guide, Dr. Khandal produced 15
Ph.Ds in various applied fields and supervised
several M.Tech and PG diploma students. At
present 20 research scholars are pursuing
their Ph.D. under his direct supervision in
various Universities.
