He founded the Federal Express Corporation in 1971.
 It was originally founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in
1971
In 1973 Smith was moved the company to Memphis,
Tennessee.
In 1994 Federal Express shortened its company
name to FedEx.

In 2000 the company changed the name once more to
FedEx Express.
In 1998 the Corporation was created as FDX
Corporation.
In 2000 the FDX Corporation changed the name to
FedEx Corporation.
 In 1990 FedEx was the first company to win the Malcolm
Baldrige National Quality Award.
