The world is changing for DSOs because of a.o. introduction of electric vehicles, growth of decentralized energy generation and changing regulation As a result there is a growing need for data communication solutions that can meet long-term requirements coming from smart metering, smart grid, in-home automation and energy management The Dutch DSOs are developing a data communication strategy to face the challenges involved with these developments scenarios The availability of a yet unused private radio license gives an unique opportunity to set-up a private radio network and perform a proof of concept The Proof of Concept is performed by a consortium of DSOs (Alliander and Enexis) and a Telco (KPN, owner of the license) between November 2009 and May 2010

To meet the new connectivity requirements of the emerging IoT segment, 3GPP has taken evolutionary steps on both the network side and the device side. A single technology or solution cannot be ideal to all the different potential IoT applications, market situations and spectrum availability. The future of IoT technology and the IoT Apps after the existence of the fifth generation of networking (5G-Network). IoT is a new technology that was born a few years ago that based on the internet network which connects all IoT network terminals together to transfer data over the network between terminals (devices) abd take an action according to these data. 5G is a set of emerging global telecommunications standards, generally using high-frequency spectrum, to offer network connectivity with reduced latency and greater speed and capacity relative to its predecessors, most recently 4G LTE (Long-Term Evolution). Importantly, 5G describes a collection of standards and technologies used to build tomorrow’s cutting-edge network infrastructure. In fact, many of the standards that will be officially considered 5G are still being decided on by working groups like the 3GPP, a collaborative body made up of various telecommunications associations.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with.
