Easter in Poland by Marcin

2. Easter is a very important holiday in Poland. During Easter
people spend time with their families and friends. Before
Easter people prepare coloured eggs called „pisanki” and
traditional dishes like „żurek” – a special soup.
3. Holy week lasts from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. On
Palm Sunday people take palms to church to be blessed.
On Easter Saturday people go to church to bless their
food.
4. On Easter Sunday people go to church to celebrate
Resurrection of Jesus Christ. After mass people go back
home and have traditional Easter meal which consists of
hard boiled eggs, cold meat and salads. After that
children go to check their gifts.
5. On Wet Monday children go outside and pour water on one
another. Older men go to pour water or perfumes on
women. This tradition is called „śmingus-dyngus”.
