HISTORY OF CANCER

 Oldest documented case of cancer- Egypt (1500
  B.C)
 Cancer-come from the father of medicine-
  Hippocrates
 Breast cancer (a type of genetic disorder) has
  been affecting humans for thousands of years.
 Jean Louis Petit and Benjamin Bell were the
  first surgeons to take out lymph nodes, breast
  tissue, and underlying chest muscle.
 Research from 18 th century was later carried
  out to the 19 th century.
SYMPTOMS OF CANCER

 Fever
 Fast-Breathing
 abnormal lung sounds
 weakness
 aches
 rashes.

               Symptoms of Breast Cancer
 swelling of parts of the breast
 lumps
 skin irritation
CAUSE OF CANCER

 cigarette smoking
 sun and UV exposure
 genetics (however not all types of cancer are linked to
  genes)
 Possibly environmental factors
 Normal cells- Follow a course of growth, cell division, and
  death.
 Cancerous cells- do not follow the same path as normal
  cells.
                    Cause of Colon Cancer
 People who get diagnosed with cancer are 90% people over
  the age of 50
 Obesity
 People who smoke tobacco
COMMONNESS OF CANCER

 Very common
 Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the
  United States.
 Cancer kills about every one out of every four
  Americans.
 Teenagers and adults between the ages of 15 to 39
  are more likely to be diagnosed with cancer.

   Commonness of Colon Cancer and Breast Cancer
 Colon cancer is one of the most common forms of
  cancer.
 Breast cancer is more common in females
TREATMENTS AND RESEARCH

 The treatment for Cancer depends on the type or form
  of the cancer. (Chemotherapy/Radiation/Gene
  Therapy/Surgery)

 Curability depends on how much has spread
  throughout the body.

 If cancer has spread throughout the body, then it is
  hard to cure.

  No known cure as of now. Researchers are hoping to
  find one soon.
INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT CANCER

 Smoking causes an estimated 90% of Lung Cancer.
 Those who get less than six hours of sleep are more likely to
  develop Colon cancer.
 One in eight deaths in the world are because of Cancer.
 Cancer has the ability to spread to other parts of the body.
 Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United
  States.
