60. New York City Department of Environmental Protection The DEP commissioned a program to equip every water meter in the City of New York with an active RFID device to enable automated meter reading. The program was essential not only to improve service levels and the efficiency of operations. The data is needed to help plan water capacity and distribution models for a city population expected to grow by as many as one million people in the next ten years. DEP had contracted with a large government contractor to build the city-wide wireless network for reading the devices, RFID and meter manufacturers, and several installation contractors to deploy the devices throughout the city. But there was no unifying way to coordinate all the players who had to integrate activities to meet an aggressive schedule. SVAM designed and built an application called MITS that allowed the contractors to plan and execute their activities in a coordinated way. The system was built on Microsoft’s .NET framework to integrate into DEP’s architecture. The project made use of an agile approach to accommodate an aggressive schedule, with concept to delivery taking just five months. By addressing systemic inefficiencies, MITS is helping to improve process complexity and delays that the City Comptroller’s office estimated to cost $24M, with recurring benefits for billing, payment, and cash flow expected to grow into the future. 68. SiteIntel An Internet firm needed a way to provide real-time national security information to their subscribers. SVAM was asked to create a robust platform that also had an attractive look and feel, with configurable pages for end-user personalization. By the very nature of SITE Intel’s business, a high level of security and privacy was required, along with powerful search capabilities and ease of creating of new pages and internal websites. The design also had to enable a second phase to integrate Web 2.0 features. The SVAM team selected Microsoft SharePoint as the platform to deliver this wide ranging capability. Beyond the traditional document management emphasis, the team integrated ASP.NET C# code to leverage the strong database engine within SharePoint. The SITE Intel web-based application is the product of choice for the best security intelligence available to non-governmental organizations. Challenge SVAM’s Solution Results
69. SonicWall SonicWALL designs, develops, manufactures, and sells network security, content security, and business continuity solutions worldwide. In a very competitive industry, SonicWALL wanted deeper insight into the profit dynamics of the business, and how operational excellence could make an impact. SonicWall had ERP and CRM platforms that are functionally rich and integrated, but the IT team was fully committed to supporting that environment for ongoing activities. They could not have the capacity to create a robust business intelligence platform to yield the desired insight. SVAM built an Enterprise Data Management platform for robust yet easy to use performance management. The system is built on .NET technologies and makes extensive use of the Qlikview Business Intelligence Tool. The team took an agile development approach that permitted the client to experiment with innovative ideas and deploy those that created the most value. The BI solution has been so successful that it is being deployed among the senior leadership throughout the company. In the next phase, we are integrating the platform with a business process management engine to integrate operations. Challenge SVAM’s Solution Results
