• Today’s teens use technology more than ever. “iGeneration”
• Teens use the internet to:
– Send instant messages to their friends
– Create blogs and online videos
– Keep personal profiles on social networking websites
– Share photos
• Technology, especially the Internet, allows all of us immediate
access to information
• The world WE live in is different than what ANY generation
has grown up in. Think about all the ACCESS you have to

• Specific audience reach - People who follow the
account are genuinely interested in what you have
to say and the content involved.
• Good for PR - Keeps everyone in the loop of what
is going on
• Keeping up-to-speed with the latest news in
higher education and monitor any activityThe Bad :(
• Vandalism – people who intentionally go out of
their way to hurt the credibility of the company.
• In the Spotlight – Updates & Tweets need to be
well thought out before sent, as people pick up
on mistakes or anything that may favour bias.

1. Psychological effects of social networking
As social networking sites have risen in popularity over the
past years, people have been spending an excessive amount of
time on the Internet in general and social networking sites in
specific. This has led researchers to debate the establishment
of Internet addiction as an actual clinical disorder.
2. Breaking up
Sites such as Facebook are becoming increasingly popular
tools for methods of ending relationships, proving that
although new media is being used as a tool for connecting
with individuals, it is now creating new problems associated
with disconnecting from others.

3. Cyber bullying
Online bullying, also called cyber-bullying, is a relatively common
occurrence and it can often result in emotional trauma for the
victim. Depending on the networking outlet, up to 39% of users
admit to being “cyber-bullied The destruction of these online
attacks can leave deep psychological scars.
4. Privacy
Privacy concerns with social networking services have raised
growing concerns amongst users on the dangers of giving out too
much personal information. Users of these services also need to
be aware of data theft or viruses.
