5. Main functions of UNCTAD
• To promote international trade all over
the world.
• To formulate principles and policies.
• To make proposal for putting the said
principles and policies into effect.
• To review and facilitate the co-ordination of
activities of the other institutions.
• To be available as a centre for harmonious

• Trade and commodities :- Includes
diversification, development, competition, consumer policies, trade
negotiations, and environment protection etc.
• Investment and enterprise development:- international
investment & guides and technology arrangements, information
system (UNCTAD database), ASYCUDA programme (Integrated
customs system that speeds up customs clearance procedures) and
ACIS programme (Computerized cargo tracking system installed
in 20 developing countries.
