• Graham- psycho, perverted man who is the murder, he is
skinny and pale but dresses in oversized winter coats and
unusual hats which cover this face and glasses. He hates
teenagers which triggers his torture/ killing spree.
• Mia- Mia is our victim, she is a young pretty generic teenage
girl who’s inquisitiveness causes her danger. She is brunette
and dresses in casual fashionable clothes.
• Bill- Is other character who features a lot, he plays the false
hero as when he goes on a hunt for Mia he always gets
distracted. He is also a normal teenage college boy who
dresses sporty as he is team captain of the football team.
• Tom, Harry, Laura and Molly- These all feature in the film
although have minor roles as they are just away at the lake
house with them. They are all dressed in casual teenage
clothes and sometimes look for Mia but on the whole are
pretty oblivious to the situation happening.
• When Graham murders he will be dressed in an old clown
costume as he believes teenagers are children and should be
treated like that

because a boy is too afraid to report it.
• On IMDB it was rated 6.8/10.
• The cast includes William Atherton, Blythe Auffarth
and Blanche Baker.
• On IMDb it holds lots of good reviews by multiple critics,
suggesting that it pushed its limits in the torture porn genre
‘‘Its been a really really long time since I have seen a
movie this intensely horrifying’’
3. Mise en scene- Costumes of characters
• For Graham, he will be wearing a large oversized winter coat
which is waxy brown, a pair of old fashioned style glasses, holey
brown trousers and a variation of hats and a distinct hat when he
tortures. He will have a muffled creepy voice and a chesty cough.
When Grahams is in the mindset of a killer he will be dressed as a
clown. This is due to his obsession with childhood as a result of
his troubled one.
• Mia will wear a skirt and top most of the time but when being
tortured she will be in her short and top pyjamas. She will be
around 18/19 years old and will have an innocent sounding voice
and long hair.
• Bill will wear college sports jackets and wear with trainers. At
parties he wears jeans and baseball jackets. He is handsome and
self obsessed.
• The other characters will just wear standard teenage clothes with
a little makeup but fashionable style.
Mise en scene- Props & Locations
Locations
• Most of the filming will take place in a garden cabin.
• -Some will be filmed in a plain, bare room to replicate the
basement although the shots will be tight so that it is effective.
• A forest which surrounds the cabin
Props
• Fake blood for SPFX
• An axe for a torture method
• A chain
• Double mirror
Lighting
• Basement: Dim lighting with spotlights to make the audience
feel uneasy due to the use of shadows and not being able to
see clearly
• Cabin: Bright light to make the cabin seem normal and distinct
from the basement
• Forest: Dark lighting to connote evil and created confusion
due to unclear vision
4. Cinematography
• For our shot selections we will need to have tight shots to
make the locations seem realistic.
• Also when being tortured the shots will be quicker only lasting
½ seconds like in American Horror Story murder house titles
sequence. It creates suspense and had the audience on edge
throughout.
• Also we would include spots which focus on the weapon used
for the murder like in Breaking Bad with the axe scene.
• Wormseye for when the girl is being tortured and dragged so
the audience can be put in the shoes of the victim
• High to low angle from the murder’s point of view to make
him seem more powerful and he audience/victim seem inferior
Editing
• The shots in our trailer will last longest at 4 seconds and
shortest at ½ a second to add suspense.
• There will be lots of different shots, by cutting each shot a few
times and breaking them up so that they are disjointed (non
continuous editing)
• Some shots will fade out from black to add to the horror.
5. Sound
• For sound we would have a chilling sound track playing
throughout the trailer but then when a death is shown it would
play a happy, upbeat song to contrast and belittle the death
despite the gore actually happening- the music drowns out the
victims screams.
• There would also be added sound effects like an axe or chain
dragged along the floor to create a climax.
• We would also have parts which have no sound but creaking
floor boards and Graham laughing.
• Having no sound would add to the visual effect as the
audience is forced to play close attention to detail on screen.
• Also using sharp noises like a scream to enhance their fear.
• By using no sounds in violent scenes it can create suspense
due to the audience having to use their imagination
BBFC Rating
• The rating for our film is an 18 due to the graphic scenes and
the violence featured in the film as it is not appropriate to be a
15. Also films similar like Texas Chainsaw Massacre are 18’s.
• The makeup needed would be lots of fake blood.
• Also gashes and gory wounds.
• Bloody tools.
6. Ancillary Text
• Possible tag line- “He’s watching”
• This is a poster which is what ours will be like, we will
have an image of a girl covered in blood and screaming.
• The BBFC rating is emphasised on the front to show that
the movie is violent.
7. Target Audience
• 18-25 due to the gruesome nature of the movie
• Socio economic group D-E as the target audience is mainly of
a student age
• British and American as torture porn movies are mainly
watches in these film industries
• Unisex
• Pyschographic: Escapism
• Uses and Gratifications theory: To entertain

burden of everyday life

both at home and in the cinema
