Objectives
1. To introduce the scope of work handled by professionals and sub-professionals in their respective
professions both in the public and the private sectors in Malaysia.
2. To enable students to develop an understanding of the building team, its organization, their duties,
responsibilities and the inter-relationship within which they will seek employment, career
progression or further study.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to demonstrate the following:
1. Explain the need to coordinate and develop an understanding of coherent working relations among
various industry players and to improve the communication channels.
2. Ability to document their observations and understanding from interview session and research
resources as well as to communicate their findings in a systematic and convincing presentation and
reports.
3. Obtain confidence through reporting and presenting their works in the class to discuss matters of
design and construction issues and inter-relationship among design/construction parties involved in
the construction industry.

Part I – Group Task
In a group work of 4-5 students, you need to find a specific land within campus area and you, act as a
client who want to initiate a small construction project which relate to the field that you are involved in.
The size of land shall not be more than 30m x 30m. Students need to prepare a project brief as a group
and propose ONE project that is appropriate to your site. The proposal from all group members will be
incorporate in the project brief as alternative.
You need to study:-
i. TYPES of BUILDING DEVELOPMENT – Includes suggestion, rationale, benefits, site analysis,
evaluation and the needs of the project to the client and to the community.
ii. AUTHORITIES ROLE IN CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY – Focus on Building Plan Approval Process
and Procedures
Part II – Individual Task
You need to prepare a company profile on role that you represent in the project. This includes
developing
i. Company Profile (Name Card, Letterhead and etc)
ii. Organization Structure
ii. Financial Statement
From Part I – The Project Brief, you need to focus on the below in order to complete your project in
your report
iv. BUILDING AND PROCESS – Focus on Architects/Quantity Surveyor/Engineer/ Contractor /
Landscape Architect roles, process and procedures in completing a project.

Compilation of Part I and Part II in A4 and comb bound format. (Refer to Guidelines of Compilation)
