Administrators must
first complete the
Administrator Course
in order for the
system to allow
students to register.


Do I need to take the Administrator
Course?

Yes, as an administrator
you must complete the
course in order for your
students to be able to
register online for the
student course.


Your Administrator hidden link, that you need to
register for the course and access it later along
with your facility’s 7-digit MLA number, are
listed in the Administrator Start Email.

Student Registration Instructions

Once you complete the
Administrator Course,

automated email of
congratulations and the
Student Registration
Instructions email.


How do I register my students?

Students register
themselves online, using
the Student Registration
Instructions email you
forward to them, as well
as the MLA number you
verbally give them.


How do my students know when to
register?
As Administrator, you must ELECTRONICALLY FORWARD the Student
Instructions email to each of your Periop 101 students.

NOTE TO ADMINISTRATORS: Below this paragraph is the e-mail you must send to
students as you let them into the Periop 101 online course. This should be done
after you have finished the Administrator Course, had had a chance to look over the
student course yourself, and have planned your student schedule/order of module
presentation. You also must give your facility’s MLA # to your students at that
time so they can register themselves. (We recommend doing this verbally so that
the MLA# is not distributed to unauthorized personnel.) Please SAVE THIS
EMAIL—you will need to ELECTRONICALLY FORWARD THIS PAGE to each
Periop 101 student in the future as well. Just copying this page will not work,
since there is a live link that the students must click.
Registration Instructions – Students
Step 1: Click on Visit the Student Registration page (this is a hidden link on the
AORN website). If you are an AORN member, just click the login now link and use
your AORN username and password. If you are not an AORN member and/or do
not have an AORN website username and password, just click the link that says
create an AORN website account now.

When students register, they are
automatically assigned to the
Administrator(s) who will receive
notification and receive an email each
time students complete modules.

How long will it take for my student to
complete the course?

Students have 6 months from
registration to complete the
course and take the final
exam. The pace differs for
each student. They need to
have completed some of their
OR clinical time, but not all,
before they take the exam.


How do I check the number of seats I
have left?

2 Ways


1) Log into the AORN Learning Center go to
the 2nd floor and click Administration


Click My Information at the left and
scroll to the bottom.


Assigned students appear under Supervisor’s
Students.


All previously and newly assigned/registered
students will appear here:


2) Student Rosters – Track seats by
keeping copies for your records.

Questions

As an Administrator, will I have access to
the Periop 101 course?

Yes, Administrators have access to the
Administrator Course and Student Course for the
full term of the facility agreement. Administrators
added on later in the term will have access for the
balance of the term.


Preceptor Module

Do Administrators have
automatic access to
the Preceptor Module?

No, they must
use one of their
free seats or
buy an extra
one.


Administrators as Preceptors

Can Administrators
register as
Preceptors and be
both at the same
time?

Yes, they can
use one of their
free Preceptor
seats or
purchase one.


More Than One Administrator

Can more than one Administrator take the
Administrator Course?

Yes, but only one needs to complete the course
in order for their students to register.

Can I set up my

Student Substitution
Can I substitute students?

It depends on when the
student drops out:

 - If the student has registered
online for the course and
started modules, that seat is
considered used.

 - If only the student’s name has
been submitted on a roster and
the student hasn’t registered,
or if the student has registered
online but not started any
modules, a student can be
substituted for another.

What happens if my student fails twice?

• The charge for taking the final exam a third
time is $125.

• Complete the Supplemental or Additional
Seat Order form, select Final Exam 3rd Attempt
and enter the student’s name, and submit it to
either periop101@aorn.org (if credit card) or
AORN Customer Service with your check.


System Reports

Is there a report that will give me information on my
student’s exam results?

Yes, Section 7 of the Administrator
Course has a button to click on the
third page labeled Final Exam to print
directions for this. Go to the AORN
Learning Center, access System
Reports, and run the Test Report for
the number of times the final exam was
taken, which questions were answered
incorrectly each time, what the
student’s wrong answers were, and the
other answer choices.


From the AORN Learning Center,
select Reports


Select System Reports then runTest
Report


From the drop down box, select Periop 101: A Core Curriculum -
Final Exam – Didactic – RN and click Go.
(The procedure is the same for ST, OB-RN Circulator and ASC
exams.)


Select the last option in the drop down box
and click Go.


If the student is not listed under the last
option, try the other options until the
student is located.


Click on the number of test attempts
highlighted in green.


Now scroll through each question your
student answered incorrectly and see what
answer your student selected.


Instructions can be found in Section 7 of Navigating the AORN
Learning Center in the Administrator Course.


Results – When a student fails:

It’s highly recommended
the student go over the
incorrectly answered
questions shown in the
Test Report with the
Administrator before
attempting another
exam.


My student completed the post test
but the results say “incomplete”!


This can occur when a student
doesn’t close the module correctly.

To close
correctly, click
the and
white “X” first.


If a student clicks the red and white “X” only,
data will not be saved.

Next, click the red and
white “X” to close out
of the module
completely.


Where can I find a student’s course
registration date? In the student transcript


Students can see how long they have to
complete the course and final exam from their
assigned learning plan page under each module
title: PCC_Learning Plan…


…and can see their actual expiration dates in the
Expiration Date column.


The Completion Certificate: only the student can print their own certificate.
Certificates can also be printed from AORN’s website from My AORN under the
Membership tab. Contact hours are also listed.

When will my students
receive their free, one-
year AORN
membership offer ?

Right after a student registers for
the course, he/she receives an
automatically generated email
containing the free membership
offer with application to fax to
Customer Service. (This offer
cannot be done online.)


Can Periop 101 modules be purchased separately?

Yes, go to AORN’s
homepage,
Education, then
Product Catalog


Select On Line Education Single Module
and press Search


Scroll down the list, view price of individual
modules, select, and add to cart


Login and proceed to checkout
