1. Compare and Contrast
By Austin Blake
I am comparing Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and Aladdin so I can
understand folktales better. Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves is a short
story I recently read at school. Aladdin is a Disney movie with a lot of
singing. They were both good stories.
They are similar because they both contain good and evil people.
In Aladdin, Aladdin showed goodness by making one of his wishes for
the genie to be free. Also Jafar, showed evil by tying up Aladdin and
throwing him into the water to try and kill him. In Ali Baba, the thieves
were trying to kill Ali Baba. But, Morgiana was saving Ali Baba by
killing the thieves.
Aladdin used magic to make himself a rich prince. Jafar used magic
to turn himself into a snake and later the most powerful genie in the
world. They both use good and bad magic to help get what they
wanted. The bad people try to get rid of the good main characters.
Sometimes good things happen in both stories.
In Aladdin and Ali Baba, they both ended with people getting
married, Aladdin to Jasmine and Morgiana to Ali Baba’s son. They lived
happily ever after. In both stories, the bad characters don't have a
happy ending. Jafar and the parrot get trapped in the lamp. Then get
thrown in the desert and eaten by the cave of wonders.
They are different in where they take place. Aladdin takes place in
Acraba, a make believe city. Ali Baba takes place in Persia, a real
country. Another thing that makes these stories different is in Ali Baba
the animals didn’t talk, but in Aladdin, the parrot talked and did mean
things.
In Ali Baba, people could fit into small baskets and in Aladdin a
carpet could fly. Also, a rock moved by saying a few words and a
person came out of a lamp. Donkeys were many different colors. A
genie grants wishes. All of these are very unbelievable.
After comparing and contrasting Ali Baba and Aladdin, I learned that
they are different because they happen in different places and have
different plots. I also learned that they are similar because they both
contain good and evil people. Also, they are folk tales that use magic
to get some things that they want and that they can’t get any other
2. way. The most important thing is that they both end happily ever
after.
