When visiting a ski resort or mountain for the first
time, it is critically important to learn the various
trail signs. Most mountains use three basic
markers to distinguish the difficulty of various ski
runs. The easiest trails to ski are marked with a
green circle, while the intermediate slopes are
signaled by a blue square.
3. A mountain’s most difficult trails, which should
only be attempted by seasoned experts, are
known as black diamonds.
However, it should be noted that each
mountain uses these symbols in comparison to
trails in that specific area, meaning a blue
square at one resort may rank as a green circle
at another. Parks with a large number of runs
may use additional symbols, such as a black
diamond within a blue square, or a double
black diamond trail, widely regarded as the
mark of an extremely difficult run.
