1. Given the plan and elevation
of a cottage.

2. Draw in the picture plane and
the spectator point.

3. Draw in the horizon line and
the ground line.

4. From the station point, draw a
line parallel to the side of the
cottage until it strikes the
picture plane. From this point
drop a line down to the horizon
line to establish the right-hand
vanishing point.

5. Repeat the previous step to
establish the left-hand
vanishing point.

6. Drop a line from the corner ab
down to the ground line. As
the line ab touches the picture
plane it is a true length in
perspective.

7. Connect ab to the two
vanishing points to establish
the front receding walls of the
cottage.

8. Draw a line of sight from the
spectator to cd in plan.
Where this line of sight cuts
the picture plane drop a
vertical line which will
indicate the depth of the
receding wall in perspective.

9. Repeat the previous step for
the line ef.

10. Draw in the front receding
walls of the cottage.

11. A height line may be use to find
the height of the apex (gh) of
the cottage. Extent the line gh
in plan until it reaches the
picture plane. From here drop a
line perpindicular to the picture
plane. From the ground line
step up the height h.

12. Draw a line from the right-
hand vanishing point to the
height h. Drop the points g
and h down perpindicular to
the picture plane to meet the
line.

13. Complete the roof of the
cottage.

15. Extend the line ag and ch back
until they meet. They meet
directly above VPL. This new
point is known as an auxiliary
point.

16. Divide the leading edge ab
into five equal parts.

17. Vanish each of these points
back to the right-hand
vanishing point.

18. Draw a diagonal line from b to
c. This divides the line ac into
five equal segments as shown.

19. Bring each of these points
back to the auxiliary
vanishing point.

20. Draw in the roof tiles in
perspective.
Note: when drawing inclined
lines in perspective an
auxiliary vanishing point will
be of great assistance.
