2. CETP
Due to development of CETP Environmental management system of
state
is improved.
More than 18 CETP are working efficiently.
The CETP are developed due to keen interest and strong commitment
of industries association.
Vapi CETP – Largest CETP –capacity 55000m3/day.
5. Advantages of CETP
Investment at personal level is not requirement.
Technical expertise is not required.
As many industries waste water is coming in CETP
dilution is achieved.
Neutralization up to some extent eliminated.
Treatment cost is reduced.
6. Disadvantages of CETP
Expansion of an existing unit may to be withhold due to non-availability of spare
capacity of CETP to treat the extra additional load resulted from expansion.
CETPs that serve heterogeneous industrial units will always have to face
fluctuations in quantity and quality of cocktail of effluent.
The mixing of highly complex waste streams, some of which may be hot and contain
chemically active compounds, can result in the synthesis of new compounds in a
largely unpredictable manner. One erring industry can make upset the entire
biological treatment system due to shock load.
More rigorous monitoring of effluent from member industries by CETP is required
so that inlet norms are met and charges can be fixed.
In some instances, the sharing of financial burden can not be done accurately and
this leads to many inequalities amoungst the financial burden to be shared by
member industries.
All the member units are merely depends on CETP for the treatment of waste
generated from their units, hence any major failure of CETP and effect the member
units.
Disinterest of member industries and non-payment of treatment charges may make
certain CETPs non- functional.
Many of the most toxic and persistent components of chemical waste streams may
simply pass through the CETP unmodified.
7. Collection and conveyance systems
Effluents of individual industries can be conveyed to
CETP by the following means :
• Tankers
•Open channels
•Under ground piping systems
• Combination of all these
8. Technical aspects for establishment of CETP schemes.
CETP handles wastewater from various types of
industries and obviously, the nature of the cocktail
of effluent is highly varying in terms of
characteristics and flow. Numbers of technical
aspects can be listed below.
A. Collection and conveyance system.
B. Design and treatment alternatives.
C. Disposal of treated effluent.
D. Cost estimation and cost benefit analysis.
9. Management of CETP schemes
The following aspects of management is to be
consider
1.Classification of industries.
2. Ownership.
3.Operation and Maintenance.
4.Financial aspects.
