Ernest Hemingway was an American novelist and short-story writer born in Illinois in 1899 who served in World War II and was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1954. He wrote many works drawing from his own life experiences until his death in Idaho at age 61 in 1961, which was initially reported as an accidental shooting but was later believed to possibly be a suicide.
