RESEARCH TOPIC
 Our research topic is “Browser War”. It talks
about the browser using by people in India. It
talks about the browser widely used by the
public. The topic which we were given was an
article named „Browser War: It’s Chrome vs.
Internet Explorer in India‟ by Mr. Viraj Desai in
Economic Times dated July 22, 2010.
LITERATURE REVIEW
 Microsoft‟s Internet Explorer is the search engine
giant in the Indian internet space, according to a
leading web statistics tracker.
 The Indian market share of IE, the world leader in
browsers, has fallen down from 58.5% to 47.7% - a
loss of almost 10%.
 IE is losing its hold on the browser market to other
browsers especially to Google‟s Chrome.
POPULATION &
SAMPLE DESCRIPTION
 Name
 Age Group
 Occupation
 Internet Usage
DATA COLLECTION
METHODOLOGY
 Survey.
 Convenient Sampling.
HYPOTHESIS
 Null Hypothesis:
◦ H0 : Internet Explorer‟s market share is
constant.
 Alternative Hypothesis:
◦ H1: Internet Explorer‟s market share is
decreasing.
FINDINGS
 The Hypothesis has been tested using
two different questions asked in the
questionnaire.
 In both the cases Z-Test Of Hypothesis
– Single Population using Sample
Proportion is used.
 The findings of both the tests have been
described below.
Row Labels
Count of Which Internet browser you
use?
Google Chrome 61.11%
Internet Explorer 6.94%
Mozilla Firefox 27.78%
Other 4.17%
Grand Total 100.00%
TEST OF HYPOTHESIS
For 1ST Question‟s Data
 The data was collected on the basis of the
Browser used by the respondents from the
sample.
Observed Hypothesized
0.069 0.53
p (as
decimal)
5/72 38/72
p (as
fraction)
4.968 38.16 X
72 72 n
• H0 (NH): Internet Explorer is losing its users.
• H1 (AH): Internet Explorer is not losing its users.
 Using „Test of Hypothesis for Single Population‟
with Sample Proportion we get the following
results.
• Std. Error () : 0.588
• Z = 7.84
• p-value = 2.33
 As the p-value is greater than the 0.05,
We Accept H0.
 Conclusion:
We can say that Internet Explorer is losing the
number of users.
Row Labels
Count of In future, if you are willing to change which
browser do you prefer?
Google Chrome 54.17%
Internet Explorer 9 11.11%
Mozilla Firefox 27.78%
Other 6.94%
Grand Total 100.00%
TEST OF HYPOTHESIS
For 5th Question‟s Data
 The data was collected on the basis of the
Browser the respondents wants to switch to.
Observed Hypothesized
0.11 0.48 p (as decimal)
8/72 35/72 p (as fraction)
7.92 34.56 X
72 72 n
• H0 (NH): People will switch to Other Browser.
• H1 (AH): People will not switch to Other Browser.
Using „Test of Hypothesis for Single Population‟
with Sample Proportion we get the following results.
• Std. Error () : 0.589
• Z = 6.28
• p-value = 1.65
As the p-value is greater than the 0.05,
We Accept H0.
 Conclusion:
We can say that people may switch to any other
browser than Internet Explorer.
FINAL CONCLUSION
 From the conclusion of both the tests
we can say that Internet Explorer is
loosing its market share to other
Browsers, mainly to Google Chrome
which is currently the most widely
used browser in India.
THANK YOU…!!!
