 Way back in Once Upon a Time, I was making a
birthday cake for my dear old granny. I had a
terrible sneezing cold. I ran out of sugar. So I
walked down the street to ask my neighbor for a
cup of sugar. Now this neighbor was a pig. And he
wasn't too bright either. He had built his whole
house out of straw. Can you believe it? I mean who
in his right mind would build a house of straw? So
of course the minute I knocked on the door, it fell
right in. I didn't want to just walk into someone
else's house. So I called, "Little Pig, Little Pig, are
you in?" No answer. I was just about to go home
without the cup of sugar for my dear old granny's
    birthday cake.
If: Uses “I, Me”

And: Main character in his
story

Then: Reliable??
Narrator character

 Describes only. Reader does NOT know
    character’s thoughts.

                He She They Their
Once upon a time there were three little pigs and the time
came for them to leave home and seek their fortunes…
The first little pig built his house out of straw because it
was the easiest thing to do.
The second little pig built his house out of sticks. This was
a little bit stronger than a straw house.
The third little pig built his house out of bricks.
One night the big bad wolf, who dearly loved to eat fat little
piggy's, came along and saw the first little pig in his house
of straw. He said "Let me in, Let me in, little pig or I'll huff
and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in!"
Narrator character

Doesn’t reveal character’s thoughts/feelings

          “His, He, They"
Point of view is…
A. The perspective of a speaker and how the
speaker presents information.
B. The speaker sharing thoughts and feelings.
C. Always the main character presenting the
story.
D. All of the above.
 The perspective of a speaker and how the
  speaker presents information.

Next Question
 This answer depends on the type of POV!

 3rd person does NOT!

 1st person is only speakers’
    thoughts/feelings.
 Main character NOT always the narrator!
 3rd person always reveals characters
thoughts and uses “He, She, They”

      True
      False
 Upon the eighth night I was more than usually cautious in
opening the door. A watch's minute hand moves more quickly
than did mine. Never before that night had I felt the extent of
my own powers --of my sagacity. I could scarcely contain my
feelings of triumph. To think that there I was, opening the
door, little by little, and he not even to dream of my secret
deeds or thoughts. I fairly chuckled at the idea; and perhaps
he heard me; for he moved on the bed suddenly, as if
startled. Now you may think that I drew back --but no. His
room was as black as pitch with the thick darkness, (for the
shutters were close fastened, through fear of robbers,) and
so I knew that he could not see the opening of the door, and I
kept pushing it on steadily, steadily.
