4. Photo Shop
When I first had to use Photo shop on my preliminary task I
don’t fell I was given enough time to experiment with the
different tools on the software. However, since making my first
magazine I believe I have progressed a lot when making my
second magazine. I was given more time to experiment with the
tools on my main task. Therefore, being able to make my
magazine a lot more creative and professional.
Since making my preliminary task magazine, I have learnt how
to manipulate images using photo shop. This has made my
images a lot more effective for my main task magazine.
5. InDesign
Before taking AS Media, I had not used InDesign before
to create anything. When I first used it to create my
contents page for my preliminary task I wasn’t too
confident of how to use the wide range of tools on the
software. However, I feel I have progressed from this,
through making my main task magazine, as I am now
able to use InDesign with confidents and I am able to
use a lot of the tools on the software.
This has benefited my final magazine as I was more
experienced when created it so I could use all the
different tools there are to use, to make it as effective,
creative and professional as possible.
6. Still Camera
Since the preliminary task I feel I have learnt to
take much more effective and professional
photographs. I have learnt how to use lighting
and settings to my advantage to make the image
really effective.
I have also learnt about the different types of
shots there are you can use when taking
pictures. For example, long shot, medium close-
up. Additionally I have learnt to use the thirds rule
when taking photos. I used this rule when taking
images for my main task magazine to make them
seem more professional.
7. Industry Practice
Through making my preliminary task
magazine and my main task magazine, I
have now got experience on focusing on a
target audience and creating what they would
want to see in a magazine.
I have learnt that everything has to connect
together to make it appeal to the specific
target audience. Also, there needs to be
continuity throughout the magazine for it to
appear professional and effective.
8. Codes and Conventions
In the progression from the preliminary task to the main
task I have learned more about the codes and
conventions of the Media industry.
I have learned more of the different terminologies in
Media. For example, when writing up research and
writing the evaluations I have been able to refer to the
terminologies and understand what they mean.
Also, when taking my images I have been able to
understand the different shot types with practice.
Therefore, my image taking skills developed through the
process as I developed my understand of the different
shot types, angles and mise-en-scene.
