2. HIS HISTORY
Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was born on the 15th
April 1452, in Vinci. He was an Italian painter,
engineer and scientist. He studied architecture and
sculpture. He was also a designer, an anatomist, a
musician and generally an inventor.
He's considered one of the greatest geniuses of
humankind.
3. THE MADONNA OF THE ROCKS
The “Madonna of the rocks” is an
important and famous painting by
Leonardo. He used the pyramidal
shape to represent the Trinity ( the
Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit).
At the vertex there is the head of the
Virgin, in the right corner there is an
Angel and on the left there is St. John
the Baptist. The light comes from the
left, elevating the characters and
underlining the sacredness of the
painting.
4. THE VIRGIN AND CHILD WITH
SAINT ANNE
“The Virgin and child with Saint
Anne” is another important and
famous painting by Leonardo.
He used the triangle shape to
represent another Trinity ( Saint
Anna, the Virgin and the boy).
At the vertex there is the head
of Saint Anne, on the right there
is the boy playing with the lamb
and in front of Saint Anne there
is the Virgin looking at the boy.
5. THE LAST SUPPER
“The last supper” represents one of the most important episodes of the Gospel, when Jesus has
the last supper with his disciples, before being betrayed by Jude. Leonardo represents the
disciples in groups of three, and this reminds us of the famous triangle shape of the other
paintings.
6. THE VITRUVIAN MAN
“ The Vitruvian man” is an important
drawing by Leonardo. He made it by
chance, when he went to Milan. It is
very important because Leonardo
drew the human body with perfect
proportions inside a square and a
circle. This drawing is inspired to a
text by a Roman architect named
Vitruvius.
7. SOME INVENTIONS
Finally there are a lot of inventions by
Leonardo, prototypes of the modern
helicopter and tank. He made them by
chance observing animals and their
movements. He made also the first
exemplary of firearm when he worked
for the Borgia family.
8. Thanks to Leonardo for
his inventions and
his discoveries!
