2. WHAT ARE GAMES?
A game, whether analog or virtual, is a form or a system
designed for the purpose of play.
Play is an activity that allows us to experiment, repeat
behaviors without fear of failure, and make a series of
possible choices to render an experience meaningful.
Games are cultural artifacts that reflect and reveal
deeper cultural and social concerns.

7. ALL GAMES CAN BE USEFUL IN THE WAY YOU USE
THEM
● Games are artifacts with cultural and social contexts.
● Games can be used to teach any discipline, including
rhetoric and composition.
● As the activities for Story Hero demonstrate, one does
not have to use “serious games” or “educational
games” to teach complex ideas.
● Like images and news articles, games can be useful in
the WAY you apply them. Start teaching with fun!
