  1. Bureaucracy and hierarchy…do you see a difference? Where do you see your organization (library or not)Team…flattening the organization…interunit and interdepartment teams to make decisions and implement changes…the University of Arizona example…each team reports to the dean…what do you think?
  2. The liaison…moving from generalist to specialist? How do you think this will work and what will it require of academic librarians? How do you see this in the information commons…and how is this different from a reference desk? Where does the specialty come in? What type of librarian do you see in academia? BTW…Don Beagle who is mentioned in your book is the Library Director at Belmont Abbey and is considered a pioneer in the information commons idea…he wrote the Information Commons Handbook with help from Barbara Tierney a librarian at UNCC…very good (and local) resources…
  3. So is this vague enough? What does this mean? What is appropriate education and determines that? Does it depend on the area of the library…how many resources are necessary to accomplish the mission of the institution?Also don’t forget the other accrediting bodies…nursing schools, ed schools that also have their requirements…in this tight budget time librarians must be aware of these needs…when is digital as good as or better than physical…how often does your collection need to be updated…most importantly where does the money come from?
  4. What is the ratio of professional to support…where are cuts made and are we losing professionals due to money concerns? What does it mean to save money by outsourcing cataloging…What impact does technology have on people?From a money and people perspective what do these cuts mean for morale?
  5. Educational and General expenditures…who decides how we get our money? We can’t claim a student body group – such as engineering students – as we serve all…Libraries must understand how the institution works in order to “justify” the expenditures…can we do this? Sure…but we must be creative and truly understand our institutions…
