4. Castle of Porto

Captured from the Moors by D. Afonso Henriques, in 1148,
the castle was D. Fuas, the brave knight, as its first mayor.
First expanded by the Arabs, the castle was renovated again,
as a Portuguese possession in D. Sancho I and completely
restored in the thirteenth century, by D. Dinis. D. Alfonso,
Marquis de Valencia and Count of Ourém again transform the
monument in 1450. The castle was partially destroyed by two
earthquakes, but it has been restored in 1940.
